Description

Product Description
With a majority of the songs on 10,000 Days clocking in well past the seven-minute mark, you wouldn't be entirely mistaken in thinking that the title of the album refers to how long it actually takes to make it through the whole thing. Two of the tracks--the sitar and tabla enhanced "10,000 Days (Wings Part 2)" and its suitably epic psych-rock sister "Rosetta Stoned"--even linger on for nearly a dozen leisurely minutes each. That's delightful news for the legion of Tool fans that have been waiting five years for the follow-up to 2001's Lateralus, which debuted at number one and sold 2.3 million copies in the United States. Singer Maynard James Keenan is back on mystical form after his hiatus with the politically slanted A Perfect Circle, sounding at once ethereal and eloquent as he calmly charges through the metal tempest of the opening track "Vicarious." The rest of the band, meanwhile, hits a series of high-flying moments with tracks such as "Jambi" and "The Pot." When Tool sounds as good as it does on these songs it's hard to get enough. Which makes it all the more baffling that a surprisingly large chunk of the disc is given over to mood-enhancing soundscapes like "Lost Keys" and "Vigniti Tres." Who has time for filler? --Aidin Vaziri

This album is just as good as all the other Tool CD's. Tool are real artists, and unlike 99% of all the other "rock" bands these days, Tool has real TALENT and doesn't care about MTV or all the other mainstream crap. If you like real music get this CD. However, if you are like 12 years old and only watch MTV then get Fall Out Boy or some crappy pop/rock band like that.

This album in no way lives up to any of their previous albums. Not only are they recycling riffs from old songs, they are doing so in a totally monotinous way. There's nothing new and exciting for this veteran Tool fan here. This album simply bores me.

Tool have consumed me for many years now. It's sad to say I see Maynard sailing the Sell-out sea. It wasn't always like that. I couldn't have expected this album to take any other route. With the growth of Lateralus, it was apparent what direction they were going. I knew what to expect. When I heard the album for the first time, I was pleased. Justin, I tip my hat to you. Though the bass in this album is not the most difficult to play, to write it in the context, it's one of a kind. He took ahold of the Paul D'Amour touch on Tool and took it to a new level. I especially enjoyed The Pot. Good raw fun that made me want to beat a politician. I also have a profound respect for Adam Jones. You know your guitar, and you stand alone in your genre. Danny Carey is why I started listening to Tool. He is one of my biggest inspirations. He rocks, and like a fine wine, he gets better with time. Maynard needs to get back to the root of what he stands for. I pray the media doesn't spoil this great singer. I was disturbed watching him on a bootleg show. He turned away from the mic and his words continued to flow out of the speakers. He's getting older i know, but he needs to be honest with himself and his fans. He is a crucial thred in the fabric that is Tool. Hopefully he can prevent his demise, then Tool will prevail.

Tool is new to me, having been introduced to Laterus in 2005... This new album 10,000 Days is off the chain. The band is fluid and generates or should I say radiates energy from their music. It's nice to hear metal played clean, tight and leaving you with wanting to play the album over and over again.

You might have to be a serious TOOL fan to really appreciate this cd as it is not the typical stuff they put out. There are two long songs dedicated to Maynard's mother who passed away in '03 that refer to her very religious beliefs and his frustration with it. He sings the lyrics softly and there are only a few intense guitar rifs that get your head banging. But the content of the lyrics are very meaningful and that is something that I've always loved about TOOL. The rest of the songs are more their usual style. Yah! In my opinion the entire cd is INCREDIBLE. They only get better with age. They continue to grow as humans and reflect that in their music. If you follow Maynard at all and are aware of his struggle with his Mom's religious beliefs the two songs dedicated to his Mom may really hit you. I couldn't listen to "10,000 days" (the song) without bawling for the first couple of months I listened to it. And I listened to it over and over... As usual, the lyrics will get you thinking and the music will get you moving. Gotta love TOOL!!!!
