Choco wishes he had a mother, but who could she be? He sets off to find her, asking all kinds of animals, but he doesn't meet anyone who looks just like him. He doesn't even think of asking Mrs. Bear if she's his mother-but then she starts to do just the things a mommy might do. And when she brings him home, he meets her other children-a piglet, a hippo, and an alligator-and learns that families can come in all shapes and sizes and still fit together.
Keiko Kasza's twist on the "Are you my mother?" theme has become one of the most highly recommended stories about adoption for children.

Author: Guest This little book packs quite a wonderful message. It would be especially encouraging in adoption situations and in blended family situations.
The graphics are very appealing to the young, it captures and maintains their attention. It also effectively tells it's story through the graphics so the young pre-reader will enjoy "reading" the story for themselves.
I would recommend this book wholeheartedly.
Author: Guest I really liked this book as it shows children that we all have similarities to others while being different at the same time. What's really great about this book, however, is that Choco mattered to his adoptive mother. Though the bear mom didn't give birth to Choco, she took him in as her own just like she did for the other animals. As a teacher in training one of my main mission statements is to let each of my students know that they matter and that someone cares about them. This is a good book to help students see that.
Author: Guest This book is brightly illustrated and will keep the attention of a small child. The story is a good way to help an adopted child understand that families do not have to look like one another or come from the same places. It promotes love and caring, and that is why I bought it.
Author: Guest A Mother For Choco is an absolutely delightful book. I read this book to my Kindergarten class every year and they are always surprised by the ending. A wonderful story for all ages. A true book of acceptance. A winner.
Author: Guest My 2.5 y.o. adopted daughter loves this book. I don't know if she understands the nature of adoption, but we discuss how she is adopted each time we read it, which is several times a day! Since she came to us when she was 2, she just might "get" what this book is all about - her! I highly recommend this sweet book for all adopted children.
