Description

Product Description
"I went to sleep with gum in my mouth and now there's gum in my hair and when I got out of bed this morning I tripped on the skateboard and by mistake I dropped my sweater in the sink while the water was running and I could tell it was going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day."

So begin the trials and tribulations of the irascible Alexander, who has been earning the sympathy of readers since 1972. People of all ages have terrible, horrible days, and Alexander offers us the cranky commiseration we crave as well as a reminder that things may not be all that bad. As Alexander's day progresses, he faces a barrage of bummers worthy of a country- western song: getting smushed in the middle seat of the car, a dessertless lunch sack, a cavity at the dentist's office, stripeless sneakers, witnessing kissing on television, and being forced to sleep in railroad-train pajamas. He resolves several times to move to Australia.

Judith Viorst flawlessly and humorously captures a child's testy temperament, rendering Alexander sympathetic rather than whiny. Our hero's gum-styled hair and peevish countenance are artfully depicted by Ray Cruz's illustrations. An ALA Notable Book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a great antidote to bad days everywhere, sure to put a smile on even the crabbiest of faces. (Ages 5 to 9)

Read this book. You'll end up laughing and realizing that your day wasn't nearly as bad as Alexander's. It puts things into perspective. One of my favorite reads to my child and now a gift to others.

Poor little Alexander ... things just didn't go right all day long--from the moment he woke up with gum in his hair. I would say he was having a very bad 'hairday,' indeed! Ha-ha ...

We have all had days like that, so Alexander's plight tugs at our heart-strings.

This is a classic that we'll never tire of reading to our kids ... for generations to come. A charming, delightfully illustrated book.

This is a wonderful story that I experienced while listening to it being read to the children at church.

My disappointment was that over a half dozen pages in the book were only printed on one side resulting in a significant lessening of the story. The book is being returned for credit since I have no way of knowing about the quality of your stock.

Please review your stock. This is to good of a book for buyers to not get the whole story.

My 5 year old son loves this book. We have read it many times since we got it. I was a teacher before I had my kids and when I was in school for my Master's degree, we did a study on lots of Judith Viorst books. It's great for young kids.

Everyone has had an "Alexander Day"; some of us have them more often than others. Ms. Viorst has captured Alexander's voice perfectly.

Some people have said that the book is too negative. That's the point; life is like that--sometimes. Deal with it
