Amarantine
Description

| From the first blanket of choral voices awash in reverb, Amarantine is instantly recognizable as a product of Enya, the Irish chanteuse who has created a genre unto herself. Although it's been five years since her last CD, on Amarantine it's as if time stood still. The triumvirate of Enya, lyricist Roma Ryan, and producer Nicky Ryan work the formula they perfected on Watermark, layering her voice in lush choirs pushed along by pizzicato synth strings, swooning orchestral pads, and harpsichord arpeggios. On tracks like "Less Than a Pearl" and "Drifting," Enya flirts with a timeless sound born in gothic chants and hymns. The former is one of three songs that she sings in Roma Ryan's fictitious language of Loxian. It seems to free her, especially on "The River Sings," a veritable rave-up where she gets the tribal choir going in the style of Scottish mouth music. But to get there you have to slog through slo-mo ballads that manage to be dirge-like and singsong at the same time, like the Carpenters on Quaaludes. The relatively restrained arrangement of "It's in the Rain" almost attains a folk-like simplicity that Enya hasn't experienced since she sang with her siblings in Clannad a quarter-century ago. Amarantine sounds like it was born in cloistered solitude, self-referentially echoing Enya albums past. --John Diliberto More Enya The Celts Watermark Shepherd Moons The Memory of Trees A Day Without Rain Paint the Sky with Stars: The Best of Enya Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest I've always enjoyed Enya and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of MEHDl (pronounced medie). After an online search I found their site (S00THINGMUSIC,C0M) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times I really must say that although I'm still a fan, I find MEHDl to be a great addition to this CD. I have them both in my multi-disc CD player and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

Author: Guest This album is Enya-style, no doubt. Great background sound, but not as mezmerizing as earlier albums.

Author: Guest Clasic Enya. If you have enjoyed her other albums you will enjoy this one also if not more. Great sound and a CD you will want to listen to over and over.. I have the CD riped and on my Ipod so I can listen to it on short plane flights. Makes for great relaxation time.

Author: Guest The only nice piece is Amarantine.
The rest of the songs are very boring and lost some of Enya's "magic".

Author: Guest So far, I have not met an Enya album that I didn't like, and Amarantine is no exception to the rule. I love the way Enya's silky smooth voice dances through the twelve songs, even the three song's sung in Roma Ryan's Loxian language. This is another great album that is sure to please any Enya fan.
As an added bonus, the liner notes give the lyrics to the songs, including the Loxian ones - with translations, of course. Hurry! Get this great CD!
