Angel - Season Five

| Lives were upended--and some co-opted--in the fifth and final season of Angel, as the denizens of Angel Investigations found themselves taking on one of their scariest endeavors ever: corporate life. After making a literal deal with the devil (or something distinctly devil-like), Angel (David Boreanaz) moved his team from their crumbling hotel to the high-rise digs of law-firm-from-hell Wolfram & Hart, his reasoning being they could better fight the forces of evil from the inside, and with more resources to boot. Clever maneuvering or easy rationalization? Not a few members of Angel's team accused him of selling out (as did a number of viewers), but as with most of the show's previous four seasons, Angel somehow took a dubious premise and mined it for gold. And with one core cast member gone (Charisma Carpenter, whose Cordelia was immersed in a deep coma), it seemed as if the show, from within and without, would suddenly fall apart--that is, until Angel's longtime nemesis Spike (James Marsters) showed up, fresh from his sacrificial roasting at the series finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Let the vampire games begin! With Buffy off the air, fans flocked to Angel's last season to get their fix of Joss Whedon's "Buffyverse" in any form they could, and the addition of Spike was a shrewd one, albeit not enough to keep the show from getting canceled. And for the first half of the season, the creative forces behind the show seemed to be toying ruthlessly with the audience. Spike was around, but not entirely corporeal; Angel himself became sullen and withdrawn; and most horrifically, sweetheart scientist Fred (Amy Acker) and former watcher Wesley (Alexis Denisof) underwent traumas that would test even the most devoted viewer. However, just when you'd be about to throw in the towel, things started changing for the better--Spike became a permanent fixture (both in the flesh and on the show), Angel's secret motives were revealed, and the introduction of demon warrior Illyria, who proved to be the show's answer to Buffy's sardonic demon-made-human Anya, was a welcome breath of fresh air. Creatively, Angel also came up with some of its best episodes, including "Smile Time" (where Angel is turned into a puppet really!) and "You're Welcome" (the show's 100th episode, which marked the bittersweet return of Carpenter's Cordelia). The ending of the series was deliberately ambiguous, and not everyone made it through alive, but in going out kicking, it was a proper sendoff for a show that always fought the good fight. --Mark Englehart Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Angel is a great show;no matter who says what.comparing to his sister series;buffy;(which is a classic, even when you consider those bad seasons came after the 5)Angel is much deeper, darker, much more dramatic and entertaining.
unlike buffy;angel is a show that is not about growing up,it is about finding out what a dark and harsh place the real world is and about finding your place in it.There arent many big fightin scenes,no big season finale bosses.angel focuses more on the twisted relationships among its unique characters;teaching us evil and good are nothing but words.
This season starts really lame to be honest;with the silliest halloween episode and some that doesnt give us anything new; which kinda looks disappointing after that shocking fourth season we got.but then, with the episode called destiny;the real aim for the season gets clear;and once you reach to that point, it makes you forgive those boring few episodes you endured and really nails you down as you watch angel in his final journey.
And the finale..AAAh the finale!! there are no words that can tell you how shocking that is.After watching it,many people got so upset that they went like;this cant be,this is so silly and stuff;but deep in their minds and hearts;everyone knew that the shocking finale stood for everything the series itself stands for.the whole season, empowered with this finale;tells you that the world is not a fearie tale;it is dark and hopeless, and the good guys;the heroes cant always save the day;but what makes them heroes is that they always try.Your heart will be broken so many times;with the tragic end of Fred and Wesley, and their extremely dramatic relationship, the farewell of cordelia, seeing how people try but cant stick together as the darkness swallows each and every one of them, and how they still find things that really matter as they say their goodbyes to the world. These are definitely among the top dramatic scenes of tv history and they shouldnt be missed.
despite the bad start of the season, some unnecessary arcs and few mood-breaking comedy episodes, and that spike character which has no business in show but to draw girls, this is the last season for one of the best shows in history.Enjoy.

Author: Guest The DVD set was good, it completes my collection of the Angel series. The quality was good and there were some good behind the scenes footage.

Author: Guest The second best season of Angel, second only to the first season. However, please note, that the cancellation of the show does result in a rapid change in the tone and pace of the end of the season.

Author: Guest This was the reason I bought all five seasons of Angel on DVD. I caught season five when it was originally broadcast and realized I needed to see the entire series. It's great TV with that Joss Wheadon touch that makes it that much better.
Even though it was a spinoff, Angel stands on it's own and has a different voice than Buffy. The characters are engaging, the plots are interesting and the writing is excellent. My only regret? It ended too soon.
Buy all five seasons. They're worth every penny.

Author: Guest The only dissapointing thing to this season of Angel is its the last! The show has been great since the early buffy split and season five ties up all the loose ends to the vampire and prophecy stories we have witnessed over the years.
Added bonus to season 5 is the introduction of Spike who brings the comedy relief he used so well in buffy, highly recommended to all buffy and angel fans out there.
