As the fourth season of Angel starts, everything is still as we left it: Angel has been sunk to the bottom of the sea in an iron box by his inexplicable and vindictive son Connor and Cordelia has been summoned to higher realms to await orders. Gunn and Fred are left in the Hyperion Hotel, unsure about what has happened to their friends, and Lilah is working hard to seduce Wesley to the dark side. In the first few episodes, some of this is resolved but it's almost immediately replaced by far worse crises: prophesies of doom accumulate more rapidly even than usual in this wonderfully gloomy show and a horned rock-like beast rains fire on Los Angeles. This last year is Angel's most tightly dramatic season yet--with a story arc of surprising intensity punctuated by the show's usual wit and sexiness.

Season 4 is presented on DVD in Dolby 2.0 Surround Sound and anamorphic widescreen. This season is leaps and bounds ahead of the excellent third season and the best so far in the series. Great special features too.

I liked this season the least and I still gave it four stars. I don't buy the whole Cordy and Angel thing that starts in Season Three and Cordy and Conner? Even if she was a demon it was still icky. Have to say I like early Cordy the best (Buffy 1-3 and 1-2 of Angel). Still one of the best shows I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

I love Joss Whedon's work, he and his team of writers do such a great job with story archs. I think the directors of the series also did a great job. Angel was finally truly hitting its stride in the 4th season. It is to bad that WB couldn't see fit to let Angel continue to improve.

Joss Whedon took Angel to the next level in Season 4. You are sucked into the story in the season opener, and it doesn't let you go until the end credits of the season finale. Nearly every episode ends with a cliffhanger keeping the tension levels very high. I watched the entire season in about 4 sittings.

This season is much darker than the previous seasons. All the characters get to explore their darker sides. And bringing Angelus and Faith back make the season even better.
