Baby's First Steps in French is a great way to invigorate babies' minds and give them an extra edge for learning down the line.
Created by an expert in linguistics, this program is based on well-known and proven principles of language development in young children. Babies and toddlers have a natural gift for languages. They learn them effortlessly, and, unlike adults, they can make the sounds of any language in the world.
The audio CD surrounds babies with the sounds of French through soothing lullabies, songs, rhymes, words, and phrases. The accompanying book for parents is entertaining, informative, and explains exactly what's going on in their baby's head. Best of all, the program is easy and relaxing--perfect for new parents with so little time (and energy) to spare.
Key Features: * The program is based on established and accepted research in child language development * For newborns to 24 months * The book is fun and easy, and requires little time * The CD can be used in baby's nursery or on the go

Author: Guest Great CD & booklet. A lot of fun both for parents and children. Easy to follow and sing along. Nice singing style too - very easy to listen to. I like the combination of songs, poems and rhymes.

Author: Guest My two year old has already started singing the songs in French and really seems to enjoy the CD. If you're looking to expose your children to other languages, this is definitely a great CD.

Author: Guest My daughter is starting to struggle with three languages (French from me and Japanese with her mother, living in English-speaking New York City). And so when it comes to getting help, this CD was one of the best. She was fascinated with a few songs (notably Sur le Pont d'Avignon), but mostly (and this is one of the goals of the CD) she was exposed to a variety of French sounds, esp. the rolling R, which she does beautifully now. Given that I'm the only French speaker around her, and her grandparents visit only so often (at most twice a year for a few weeks), this CD was invaluable.
I couldn't care too much with the booklet that came with it, but I read it and it wasn't uninteresting, only I was familiar with the theories explained. But it serves as a nice reminder of how to best expose your child to sounds from another language, and should help English-speaking folks who want to use it for their children. The songs include various classics (Frere Jacques, Pont d'Avignon, Savez vous Planter les Choux, A la Claire Fontaine, and also spoken rhymes and more creative ones) in beautiful tones (nice electronic instrument, appropriate for children, and yet with a rich harmony). This is a CD that I also enjoy listening to, and also to remind myself of the lyrics---I'm afraid I'll have to learn them all over again. And I surprised myself humming them many times on the way to the playground.
Now we're going to start playing it again for her little brother.

Author: Guest I really do like this cd, especially the companion text. However, I have noticed some errors such as rouge being orange instead of red.

Author: Guest The CD was great with native speakers and a variety of different learning tools (not just songs, but also poems, and more). I especially liked the book that comes with it which explains the process of language learning in children including pros and cons of multilingualism. I got this as a gift and I'm so glad I did, I'll also be buying the Spanish version for my little guy!
