Author: Guest Our kindergartener has learned to read simple sentences with the Bob books, all this on his own volition. He has a sense of accomplishment and is eager to learn more at school.
Bob Books are a great way to introduce your child to reading, without pressure.
Author: Guest I have to say that we really like these Bob Books. I am currently home schooling my almost 7 year old and almost 5 year old. They love them. My oldest is a very auditory learner and has had struggles with reading because she wants to sound out everything. As we know, the English language has a lot of irregularities and sounding everything out doesn't always work the same way everytime. The Bob Books have made a HUGE difference for her in terms of learning language rules, sight words (yes, she even gets the sight words!) and just plain bolstering her confidence. We love the cute illustrations and chracters and finger puppets. They are so endearing and she has become invested in them which has only helped. I would however say that I use these books in conjunction with Alpha Phonics and not as a stand alone program. I think you could use them alone with a more visual learner than my child but even then I'd think about using them in conjunction with something additional.
Author: Guest Super series for learning to read! Recommended by a teacher friend, these books are super for teaching a child to read phonetically.
Author: Guest Bob Books are absolutely fabulous for the beginning reader. My daughter started reading these books at 4, and the parent guide helps tremendously. A must have for any parent with a young child learning to read.
Author: Guest I'm a reading specialist and author ("Teaching Kids To Read for Dummies"). Just in case you have any lingering doubts about trying out these great little books -my job is to start kids reading (even if they've failed before) and I use Bob Books all the time. The illustrations are a great plus for me because they're cartoonish and so appeal even to kids who are starting to read later than classmates.
