Brainy Baby - Left Brain
Description
| Product Description |
 |
| It's called "whole brain thinking," the notion that if children are stimulated to use both sides of the brain--developing their abilities to think both logically and creatively--they will become more adept learners. Underscoring such research, the folks at Small Fry Productions (makers of Bilingual Baby) have produced Brainy Baby, which joins a host of worthy tapes designed to stimulate a baby's mind. This two-volume set is unique, however, in addressing specific left and right brain functions in distinct, 30-minute programs. "Left Brain," the second volume, picks up where volume one leaves off, engaging a child's analytical abilities. Bright visuals encourage growth in the areas of math, language, and logic. Patterns and shapes are introduced in colors of red, black, and white. Language is explored beginning with letters of the alphabet, followed by simple words and voice-overs offering the equivalent in Spanish and French. Numbers are presented in sequence using interactive questions (How many do you see?). Less clinical than the So Smart! approach, Brainy Baby provides enthusiastic narration and plenty of baby faces, familiar toys, and giggles. It also employs the so-called Mozart effect (the idea that classical music enhances a child's spatial intelligence), interspersing selections from baroque and classical era composers Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. If parents are uncomfortable with the film's academic premise to "develop your child's analytical side for a smarter baby," they can be assured that, research aside, there is plenty of pure enjoyment here to delight a wee one, 6 to 36 months. And the melodies of the maestros make it palatable for parents too. --Lynn Gibson Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest The Brainy Baby videos, right brain and left brain, are the best of the baby videos by far. They are so much better to me than the Baby Einstein videos -- first of all, there is some diversity in the babies and children featured in the videos! Also, the production quality is good, the music is great, the tapes last a tad longer than the Baby Einsteins, so you're getting more tape for your money, and the narrator's voice is very baby friendly without being irritating to the parents. This was a great purchase!!

Author: Guest As a member of a local pre-school association as well as a clinical psychologist and mother of two young boys, my friends and colleagues and I have found all the Brainy Baby DVD's to be wonderful tools to use with our children. And, they make great gifts for friends with new babies and for children's birthdays. My 3-year old, Sam, can read and spell hundreds of words, identify (and spell) shapes and colors and loves listening to classical music. I see how much of this has been stimulated by watching the Brainy Baby videos. Each of the Brainy Baby DVD's has been a hit and the sum of them have provided a wonderful pre-school education for my kids.

Author: Guest Two thumbs way up for this addition to the RIGHT BRAIN video! Our daughter is either busy trying to find the flash card that goes with what is being shown on the screen or she is twirling to the music. Either way she is learning and that is the whole reason we bought these in the first place. I have found quality for my money and an educational experience with Brainy Baby that doesn't talk down to our kids but inspires them to join in on the learning!

Author: Guest My daughter won't watch the left brain video but pretty much throws a party everytime I put the right brain on. The video just isn't very interesting. Parts of it are like "D A D D Y" spells Daddy. My 1 year old isn't ready for this yet and gets bored with it that she ends up giving up on the video. So we haven't made it through the entire video yet. Since I put the video on whenever I really need to get something done, I can't afford to have her become uninterested in it within 3 minutes. So I usually resort to putting on the Right Brain or one of the Baby Einstein videos (Mozart, Beethoven or Bach - the rest aren't as good).

Author: Guest This is by far the best gift I received for my baby! I never write reviews, but the Right Brain/Left Brain series are so wonderful, I couldn't help but to express my opinion. My son has been watching them since he was two months old. He is now 8 months old and still enjoys them. I recently purchased the ABC's one, and even though it says it is for ages 2-5, he sat straight up in his bouncy seat for almost the entire video. In my opinion, these are so much better than the Baby Einstein series--my son is not nearly as engaged in the Baby Bach and Mozart Einstein videos that I have tried.
