Description

Product Description
Wedding experts Denise and Alan Fields say it isn't necessary to spend the nationwide average of 11 months of planning and $20,000 for a fabulous wedding. In this new edition of the bridal bargain bible, they outline specific budgets for beautiful weddings that cost a fraction of the average price. This edition includes reviews and ratings of more than 50 new bridal gown designers, tips on surfing the Web and saving on honeymoon costs, and a guide to the best online wedding bargains in the aftermath of the dot-com shake-up. The authors explode the "three costly myths" about wedding catering, show how to negotiate a great deal on a ceremony and reception site, and point prospective brides and grooms toward savings on invitations, flowers, wedding videos, entertainment, and more. Illustrations are also included in this latest edition of the best-selling book on weddings.

There are so many factors that go into wedding planning, it can be overwhelming! I bought this book because I have a rather modest budget, but still want my special day to be, well, special. There are dozens of great tips, and tons of information - things I never would have thought of myself. My only complaint is the size and shape of the book itself - I suppose it's long and narrow to fit into a tote, but instead its a little difficult to deal with. Of course, this doesn't have anything to do with what's inside! I highly recommend this book!

If you are sick of looking at magazines and books filled with pictures and scenarios that are completely out of your reality, then this is the book for you. These authors (out of the dozens I've read) are the first to acknowledge the rip-off nature of the bridal industry (I used to think the biggest scam artists were college bookstores--boy was I wrong!) This book provides realistic, specific recommendations that are not advertisements. Buy this book!

After I got engaged, I rushed to the bookstore and bought as many bridal magazines and wedding planning guides as I could find. I don't have the kind of mom who really wanted to get involved in the planning (Thank goodness! She helped when I asked, but otherwise let me decide what I wanted.) and I was the first of my in-town friends to get hitched so I really needed some guidance. I was disenchanted with the books I had bought because most were incomplete or focused on one aspect of planning a wedding, to the exclusion of the "big picture."

Then a co-worker recommended Bridal Bargains. I read through it and took all the other books to Goodwill. This is the single most useful tool I had at my disposal while I was planning my wedding. The advice and tips are comprehensive and apply to the entire spectrum of weddings. There are as many tips for brides planning a small, family-only wedding on a tight budget as there are for those planning enormous affairs where the sky is the limit. I especially credit this book for leading me to the source of my bridesmaids' gowns, which were exquisite. You won't be disappointed with this book!

I am going to return this book and get my money back from the authors. Hey, they offer in writing in the book.

Your best source of what you want is from you. Your best source of information is from recent brides. Know what you want first and then figure out how to make it happen. New brides are more than happy to give advice and tips. Another plus is that new brides still remember how important it is for you to have your own individual wedding. New brides will give recommendations and let you talk out what you want, and then they will get the heck out of your way.

If you are recently engaged then you have probably already started to hear many people tell you how should do things, what they would have done, and their expectations of your big day - all with varying levels of intensity. This book is more of that.

If you really are short of available recent brides to talk to then go ahead and read the book. Keep a saltshaker handy because a few grains are required to digest their advice. These poor authors who are so unpopular with the wedding industry, woe is them. How much do you want to trust a book that so whole-heartedly promoted one gown store and bashed another when their pet store is filing bankruptcy?

Yes, it is true. This book's pet bridal gown store, Discount Bridal Service (DBS), is going out of business, filing bankruptcy, and leaving thousands of brides without dresses. Their least favorite store, David's Bridal, is still in business and still providing dresses to us brides. (Plus you can try on dresses that fit and bring your camera!)

PS - A true source of information are event coordinators of any type. I got great information from hotel Sales Managers and various churches. Even though I was just getting information about room blocks or just inquiring about the wedding ceremony the Sales Managers and church Wedding Coordinators/Alter Guilds had great advice and could give me five recommendations each for photographers, florists, and bakers. This gave me a great start on looking for those kind of vendors.

If you are getting married, do yourself a favor.. ignore all information in this book unless you want a couple of wed-in-Vegas journalists to plan your most sacred day.

I second the notion--this book is no BARGAIN.
