Chuck Murphy's Color Surprises: A Pop-Up Book (0689815042)

| If only words could describe Chuck Murphy's Color Surprises as well as his gasp-inducing pop-ups manage to capture the essence of each color of the rainbow. Each page of this little wonder--one of the best, most artistic pop-up books we've ever seen--features a single, solid-colored square. With a quick pull or gentle push, however, one of nature's creatures slithers, flies, or bounces out of the square and (almost) off the page. Red is a gracefully unfolding starfish, and blue is a pleasantly popping parrot. We'd love to give the rest away, but half the pleasure of this fine book is in the discovery. A great gift for any adult on your list, but kids who like animals (meaning all kids) will love it, too. Author: Guest My 16 month old loves this book and it's one I don't mind reading over and over. Each page has a colored flap, which when lifted (or when the tab is pulled), reveals an animal of the same color. Some of the animals, like the green snake, are particularly wonderful. It is not the sturdiest toddler book, as the other reviewers have noted. My son would likely destroy it with his enthusiastic pulling if I left him alone with it, so we save it for reading together. Another sturdier pop-up book that I recommend is "Tails". We also enjoyed "The Wheels on the Bus" pop-up although our copy is currently in need of repair!

Author: Guest Our 9-month-old daughter always grabs this book first when it's time to read stories at bedtime. When we first got it, she wasn't able to manipulate it herself, but still paid close attention to each page. It's well engineered with simply-operated flap-lifting and tab-pulling. Though the actions are simple, the results are surprisingly elaborate. She's very excited to be able to lift some of the flaps on her own now. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a baby, as well as the other Chuck Murphy books. Our other favorite is "Black Cat, White Cat". Great books!

Author: Guest my son loves this book - I had a copy from when my daughter was a baby and now am buying this yet again for my son who has destroyed our first two copies. He will look at this book 20 times a day and never tire of it. The only problem is left unsupervised he has broken the snake, monkey, and penguins on each copy - those being his favorites. So my only comment is that it can be a little too fragile for overzealous toddlers.

Author: Guest This is a fantastic book to teach colors. There is a simple, single box on each page with the color word under it. Then, when you open the box an intricate pop up is revealed. My 2 year old is in LOVE with it! I highly recommend this book!

Author: Guest My son is visually impaired and just loves this book. He actually learned how to crawl by his father and i sitting at opposite ends of the room and "reading" the book. He would crawl between us. I could get him to stop anything he was doing and crawl to the book. Then he wants you to read and read and read it. We read it so much in his first year, we had to buy it again. Yes it is not durable, but I don't think there is much to be done about that.
