Hair Rules! : The Ultimate Hair-Care Guide for Women with Kinky, Curly, or Wavy Hair

Description

Product Description
Curly girls of the world unite! Sixty-five percent of women have naturally curly hair, but for too long too many of these women have either been at a loss on how to care for their hair properly or, worse, have gone through life pretending they have straight hair. No more. Lorraine Massey, a professional hairstylist and passionate proponent of curly hair, celebrates the curly girl way of life, from hair care to carefree attitude.

Beginning with The Curly Girl's Twelve-Step Program (Step Three: I will accept that the scalp and hair are two different entities with completely different needs, and I will treat them accordingly), CURLY GIRL is an illustrated how-to, support group, and tongue-in-cheek manifesto all in one.

There are tips on shampoo (never daily), conditioners (use lots), drying, combing (only when wet and well-conditioned), styling, getting the right cut, and how to Heal Thy Hair after years of strong detergents and damaging blow-dryers. There are before-and-after photographs, Curly Cues, self-help tests, confessions from curly girls, advice to take to your stylist. And for girls seeking their inner curl, compassion and encouragement to let their hair break free-and to put the fear of frizz behind them forever.

Because from now on there's no such thing as a bad hair day.

I thought this book was absolutely the best "self-help" book I've ever purchased. I have fought with my curly hair for over 30 years. I feel so liberated now. I've thrown out my shampoo and my hair dryer (the hair dryer was the most difficult) and now I love my hair. I get compliments on it continually and taking care of it is so easy. I wish I had had this book 20 years ago.

No matter what your hair texture, wavy, curly or coils, this is a great resource. I have kinky hair. I followed the curly girl program and it really brought out the curls. I loved the book!

I enjoyed reading this book, especially the horror stories related by other curlies about struggling with their curls. This book is about accepting your hair as it is instead of trying to conform to a current fashion standard. I have followed a lot of the advice in the book (not using silicone products, air drying, not straightening hair) and have had great results. Massey advocates giving up shampoo (or only shampooing once a week) and that's where I draw the line! No shampoo is just not going to happen with me, but I've heard other curlies have had great success with the no shampoo regimen. Even if you don't end up following the book exactly, this is a fun read with some great tips!

I've read every book on hair care and tried every product ever created for naturally curly hair and this gem is by far the best. The author gives the most practical advice for achieving the healthiest hair you have ever had and a new attitude for embracing your curly self.

Chances are if you see a woman with a beautiful head of curls (read no frizz) she's either read this book or has been advised by someone who has. Curly Girl, The Handbook is both fun to look at and helpful to read. It covers all kinds of curls, from ringlet "Botticelli" curls to corkscrew curls to wavy curls. After you identify your hair type, there are numerous tips for care and styling to make your particular curls your most attractive feature. This book would make a great gift for the curly girl in your life.
