| A side project doesn't usually hit gold, especially when said project is a quirky virtual collective fronted by cartoon characters. But the first, self-titled album by Gorillaz--the brainchild of illustrator Jamie Hewlett and Blur frontman Damon Albarn--actually hit platinum and turned into a surprise worldwide hit. Naturally expectations were a lot higher for Gorillaz's sophomore effort, but Demon Days actually is even better than its predecessor. With producer Dan "the Automator" Nakamura gone, Albarn, a.k.a. 2D, has paired up with DJ Danger Mouse (responsible for the infamous Grey Album that illegally mixed the Beatles and Jay-Z) to steer the musical ship, while a whole new slew of guests enlivens the proceedings. Albarn has described Demon Days as being darker, but there's a real kooky dance-party vibe coursing through the CD. Despite its somber tone, "Kids with Guns" is lifted by a killer bass line, for instance, while the catchy first single, "Feel Good Inc," is augmented by an appealing contribution from De La Soul. Other noteworthy guests include Roots Manuva and Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird on the dubby "All Alone" and Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder on the bouncy "DARE." And yet it's a 69-year-old actor who gets to deliver the most baffling contribution--just listen to Dennis Hopper's spoken-word narrative on "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head." Author: Guest I am not going to post an elaborate review on this album considering 300+ people have already weighed in. With that said, this album is truly a top addition to any collection. Damon Albarn is a genius. He has fused together a talented group of people and done an exceptional job piecing together special guest performers. This album is truly an innovative art work, piecing together electronic, pop, some rock and alternative, and hip-hop. In addition, there is tons of extras that go along with this album - which further develops the world's first and most successful digital group. What a story.
From this album alone I have discovered many new artists and bands ...
- Del the Funkee Homosapien
- MF Doom
- Danger Mouse
- Blur
- The Good, The Bad & The Queen
- The Clash
and the list goes on and on ....
Oh yeah, every song on this album is 5 stars.

Author: Guest I'm a Hiphop head and the peeps behind this project came up with some different yet cool music. I like their music and will be getting their next album(have the others). Is it Rock or is it Hip Hop? Neither it just good music and big 5 stars just for originality and good music. Wish more projects would come about and make some cool music with some base, horns and original stuff. Good Album, Liked hearing Del La Soul back too.

Author: Guest I'm an older 80's& 90's music lover and buy very little of todays stuff, but this got me."Dare" is just too funky, the rest of this disc is alright too.Adult content aside. Not overtly offensive.

Author: Guest This is my first Gorillaz CD. I'd heard a couple of songs by them in the past that I enjoyed, but never thought to buy. Then DirecTV showed a Demon Days concert and I just had to have the CD. (Still in my DVR, btw!) Love it!
Subtract 1/4 star: Kinda wish there were lyrics included, but oh well.

Author: Guest It may sound like a gimmick, but it actually works well. The band is Gorillaz...the members do not exist in real life. They are animated characters hailing from Britain. The project is really the project of a member of Blur (you know...the group that does that Song 2 Woo hoo song from sporting events). The animated group placed together an interesting album full of steady rock beats, some rhymes, elements of electronica, and the help of some rap acts that really deserve more attention than...Young Jeezy.
Anyways, here's my scores on the tracks:
1. Intro - Not much here, 5/10
2. Last Living Souls - 7.3/10, cool song, but it gets better.
3. Kids With Guns - 8.5/10, the beat to the song is quite good and the lyrics are simple. The ending is the best part.
4. O Green World - 8.7/10, decent
5. Dirty Harry - 9.3/10, now comes the good stuff, the chorus is great
6. Feel Good Inc. - 10/10, the big attraction. You've seen this on the ipod commercials. Great stuff.
7. El Manana - 9.9/10, another good song. The real reason why I got the album.
8. Every Planet We Reach Is Dead - 9.4/10, an easy going song with a sad-like message.
9. November Has Come - 9.5/10, MF Doom...he's the man.
10. All Alone - 8.7/10, the "All Alone" vocals are cool
11. White Light - 9.7/10, lot of people hate this song, but I think it's pretty damn cool
12. Dare - 8.4/10, a little on the poppish feel
13. Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head - 9.0/10, admire the reading of Dennis Hopper
14. Don't Get Lost in Heaven - 6.7/10, just a prelude into the final song
15. Demon Days - 8.5/10, the title track is really not my favorite, but it is a good way for the album to close out.
Overall, this album delivered during a time when people constantly claimed new music sucks (which isn't really true at all...stop watching MTV dude!). If you're interested in something different, give this album a try. Fans of rap acts like De La Soul, MF Doom, and Roots Manuva may also enjoy this album.
