Entertaining, top marks for the novelty concept, excellent cast, superbly made. One of the best TV shows I've seen in years. This one will keep your interest, and leave you wanting more. Watching each episode for the second time is usually even more entertaining.
The books on which the series is based (Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter ), not so hot, imho.

I was a big Six Feet Under fan and was anxious to see what Michael C. Hall's next project was going to be. Dexter is a fitting follow up to showcase Hall's brilliant acting skills. He manages to make the impossible possible by giving a serial killer likable qualities that create a sympathy for his "hobby." We've all seen the worst of the worst escape justice and hoped they would get theirs in the end. Dexter feeds that dark place that wishes the guilty who are acquitted get what's coming to them. The ice truck killer plot was just mind blowing and I didn't see the ending coming. This series is amazing and would be a killer addition to your DVD collection. (Insert collective groan...sorry!)

I absolutely loved this series. VERY original, and entertaining. I got a subscription to showtime just for this series, cancelled it when the season was over.

This is absolutely one of the most original series around. No surprise there because Dexter first appeared in book form (see link below). If someone had told me I would be riveted by a book written from the viewpoint of a serial killer, well...I would never believe it. But Dexter was almost...loveable and he has a certain morality, believe it or not.
The series is different but I found it equally intriguing and quirky.
I was pleased that some of what had attracted me to the books managed to get on screen as well, including Dexter's unique humor and a certain presence that resonates from page to film. That pleased me. What is most amazing to me is how this series actually reverberated emotionally and touched my life in ways I never believed possible, considering the focus of the series.
This could have been a flop. It was a brave move to put something like this on the air and I feared (before I saw the first episode) that the depth and complexity of Dexter, hiding beneath that slick, seemingly inhuman surface, would be lost. But my fears were groundless, thank goodnes.

I never even heard of this show until my stepdad recieved it from showtime as an emmy screener. This show is the best written show I have seen in years, not to mention the brilliant concept in itself. What is most seductive about this show is how much empathy Dexter can actually make the viewer feel. You find justification in everything that is his curse. I have gotten many of my friends and family hooked on this show and can't wait til October for season 2.
