Rarely has an album surfaced with this much raw ability to repel dads, pesky little brothers, and teens with reputations to protect. Then again, rarely will gift-giving grownups find a CD better suited to 3- to 8-year-old divas in the making. Princesses presents 10 melodramatic movie-derived favorites, from as far back as 1948's Cinderella to modern-day hits like Mulan, performed by a handful of lovely sounding if barely distinguishable studio artists; the singing along part is supposed to take place during an instrumental version of each track that directly follows the vocal rendering. Thus, packs of pretend Pocahontases, Belles, and Ariels secure the spotlight for karaoke-style belt-outs of "Colors of the Wind," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Part of Your World."
