Description

Product Description
Five years after its first publication, with more than 150,000 copies in print, Final Gifts has become a classic. In this moving and compassionate book, hospice nurses Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley share their intimate experiences with patients at the end of life, drawn from more than twenty years experience tending the terminally ill.

Through their stories we come to appreciate the near-miraculous ways in which the dying communicate their needs, reveal their feelings, and even choreograph their own final moments; we also discover the gifts--of wisdom, faith, and love--that the dying leave for the living to share.

Filled with practical advice on responding to the requests of the dying and helping them prepare emotionally and spiritually for death, Final Gifts shows how we can help the dying person live fully to the very end

My Grandmother is currently dieing of Cancer. This is helping both of us tremendously. My Aunt first recommended it. I've told many people about this book.

My father is in his last stages of life and under the care of Hospice. This book really helped me understand what was really going on. We kept thinking he was just confused, hallucinating. Now I know that he is just preparing for crossing over and it helps me feel at peace with it.

...unless the dying person specifically requests this book.

It should be read by the people "who spend time with" the dying. Especially read by idiotic, out of town, distant relatives who decide to "drop in" and visit the dying person. If you are going to look up a book on Amazon to give as a gift to your relative who is dying, be sure you get the context and understand the semantics before handing it to him/her.

Reading this will be a very freeing experience for anyone involved in the end of life process-be it the person who's dying, loved ones, family, friends and care-takers. It's beautifully written. One comes away seeing how unique each individual is and how important it is to grant freedom of choice to those we love. The final scenes we have with the dying are so private and intimate. This book celebrates them and reassures us how natural they are in the course of things.

It should be mandatory reading for people who care for terminally ill patients. Unfortunately it isn't so some of us have had to deal with paid care-takers who don't have so much compassion and respect as they can force us into advocating for our loved ones right up until the end.

It's a comforting book with a deeply positive message. You won't feel like you've been dragged through misery but will be uplifted.

I can't say enough good things about this book. It's great for anyone who has lost a loved one or especially for someone who has a loved one that's terminally ill. I've ordered and given out at least 50 copies of this book and with each person that's received it, it's REALLY helped them with preparation of the passing as well as the grieving process. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it.
