Description

Product Description
This pink pig is an infant toy that exposes babies to counting, colors, animals and sizes through the friendly role play of a piggy bank theme. In the Learning Mode, baby can drop one of the 10 colorful coins into the generous slot on the top to hear musical rewards as the Piggy Bank counts for each coin dropped. Press the "nose" for friendly sounds and a song about counting, colors, and big and small. In the Music Mode, each coin drop will play one of five short ditties. Press the "nose" for fun sounds and an additional song. In either mode, baby can open the clear door for music as the coins tumble out and the tail spins for additional play. Requires 3 "AAA" batteries (included).

My daughter received this piggy when she was about one and it has been used on a regular basis ever since (she is now 3). It's one of those toys that every kid who comes over goes straight to! It doesn't have so many functions that it's confusing for small children (many toys' keys/buttons respond differently each time you push them). It has a music function and a counting function. It helped my daughter develop hand/eye coordination, later, matching, then counting. The big and small coins kind of go together: for example the big coins have an adult animal and the small coins have the corresponding baby animal, so it helped her learn not only animals' names but also big & small, sorting, matching colors, and matching animals. A couple of things that I noticed are that it will count to ten whether you have ten coins or not (like if you have 9 coins and put one in twice) and that the door did fall off quite a few times (but it is easily replaced). Its voice is friendly and not too loud, the music is fun, and it stores well since the coins go inside the belly. Every kid who comes over wants to play with this piggy; we have gotten more than our money's worth from him and are quite pleased with the purchase. I just bought another one for a birthday gift for our friend's two-year-old son.

My daughter got this around 1 year old and she had lots of fun putting the coins in the slot, hearing it count and play music, then opening the door to collect all of her "money" and do it all over again. The only problem was that the clear door kept coming off and we finally lost it, so she no longer plays with it now that the money just falls out. As for the educational value one reviewer spoke of...the age range for this is 6 mos to 36 mos. My son just started learning the monetary value system this year (1st grade) and although we introduced values much earlier..I think this is mainly for a much younger age that is learning dexterity and basic counting skills as well as recognizing different sizes and colors (the coins). This toy teaches young children plenty as well as being fun as a toy should be. This was one of my daughters faves until we lost the door!

I have twin boys almost 2yrs old and they love this toy. They have been playing with this toy about 1 year now so it is very durable. As a Mom I love this toy because it teaches so much more than number counting. It teaches fine motor skills, sharing and colors. I've made up a little game for my boys where I ask them questions and when they give me the answer they get a coin to put in the slot. Great way to teach them to wait their turn.

We've had this toy for about 6 months now, and our 12 month old is just starting to figure out how to put the coins in the slot. Her almost 3 year old sister also loves the toy, comparing the sizes of the coins, commenting on the different colors, etc.

positives = not a noisy toy, simple fun with numbers, extra learning with parent/baby animals and colors, good for practicing hand/eye coordination

negatives = bank is difficult for child to open, child might get bored with the toy after 10-15 minutes

This is one of the few toys that has stayed popular and fun in our house. My son received the Piggy Bank when he was 18 months old for Christmas. He was immediately drawn to the cute design and it was a favorite immediately. At first, the toy was great for having him hone his small muscle skills while putting the coins in the slot. As he has gotten older, we used the toy to teach colors (i.e. when he would pick up a red coin we would ask, "what color is that"), big and small ("get the small red coin"), and, at a little under [...], he is now able to count out the coins he deposits. I like the fact that this toy doesn't "do it all" for the child in terms of teaching beyond the counting. The limited vocalizations from the toy make it a great toy for parent and child to play together. I would highly recommend this toy to any parent of a toddler.
