| "Good night, Gorilla," says the weary watchman as he walks by the gorilla cage on his nightly rounds at the zoo. The gorilla answers by quietly pickpocketing the guard's keys, stealthily trailing him, and unlocking the cages of every animal the oblivious fellow bids goodnight to. Looking much like an exhausted father, the uniformed guard traipses home toward his cottage, while the lonely zoo animals softly parade behind him. The animals manage to slip into his bedroom and nestle unnoticed near his sleepy wife--until the bold little gorilla goes so far as to snuggle up beside her as she turns out the light. Author and illustrator Peggy Rathmann (creator of the Caldecott-winning Officer Buckle and Gloria) relies more on the nuances of her jewel-toned pictures than on words to pace this giggly bedtime story, making it perfect for observant preschoolers. In one inky-black spread, Rathmann lets only the shocked, wide-open eyes of the guard's wife tell us that the gorilla has been detected! Tiny details such as the faithful, banana-toting mouse and sky-bound pink balloon that appear in each picture keep this book fresh, magical, and fun--even after countless bedtime readings. Author: Guest I can always get my 2-yr-old ready for bedtime with this book. It's great because you get to make up the story yourself since there are no words in the book. And talking about how the animals are "all sleepy...look how they're getting all snuggled in ready for bed and their eyes are closing because they're soooo tired" starts him rubbing his eyes and yawning.
And don't forget to keep track of the balloon throughout the book!

Author: Guest This is a wonderful book. I got it for my son's first birthday. We are now on our 4th copy. He is now 6 and still enjoys it. His 2 little sisters love it as well. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children or about to have them. It also makes a wonderful gift.

Author: Guest I received this book as a baby shower gift. I didn't open for almost 18 months. I had tried to read several stories to my son and he didn't seem interest. I picked up this book one day and that was it. My son is hooked on books. This is a great book that let's you be creative with the story. It engages your child. I get quite animated when reading it and so does he. If someone else reads this book to him, he will make the sounds that him and I make when we read it. I adore this sweet story.

Author: Guest We (me, my husband and our 16 mos old daughter) love Goodnight Gorilla. We have very different styles reading it, he reads it straight up as written, whereas I refer to the zookeeper and his wife as "mommy" and "daddy". "Look, mommy is taking the animals back to bed". Either way, she loves reading it every time, and picks it on her own several times a week.

Author: Guest I first purchased this book from Amazon when my son was only ten months old. At first I was disappointed because there are so few words in the book. Having purchased it from Amazon, I had not seen the book from cover to cover. However, it didn't take me long to realize what a great opportunity this was for my son to use his imagination and critical think about each illustration. In a very short amount of time he was telling me what each page said, whether it happened to be one with words or not! What a pleasure it was to see him critically thinking in this manner and at such a young age! I would highly recommend this to any parent. My son was also able to catch on very quickly that there is a mouse to be found on every single page. He is now 29 months old and still begs me to read it him!
