| In search of the perfect human diet, Victoria Boutenko compares the standard American diet with the diet of wild chimpanzees. Chimpanzees share an estimated 99.4% of genes with humans, but their diet is dramatically different from ours. The most glaring difference is that chimpanzees consume significantly more green leaves than humans. Victoria developed a series of greens smoothies that enable anyone to consume the necessary amount of greens in a very palatable way. Author: Guest I love this book not only for the recipes, but for how the author learned through personal experience how important it is to have greens and fiber in our diet (instead of regularly using a juicer.) The green smoothies are delicious, filling, and easy to manage with my busy lifestyle. I now have a fruit based green smoothie every day for breakfast. "Igor's Favorite" is my favorite, too. Most days of the week I also have the savory "Green Delicious" smoothie for either lunch or dinner.
So you are aware, you need to invest in a special high powered blender for the smoothies to come out right. I tried using a new $40 blender and they come out chunky and don't taste very good that way. You have to buy either a Vitamix or the Blendtec Total Blender. I choose the Blendtec because it has the highest power, you can program it for smoothies, and it was recommended on a raw food discussion board. I don't regret the decision; it has performed great.
I started trying a more "raw" diet in May 2006. For beginners I recommend this book and Alissa Cohen's "Living On Live Food" and investing first in a high speed blender and then a 12 cup Kitchenaid food processor. I would take it slowly in stages, having a smoothie for breakfast, nice big salad with homemade raw dressing (olive oil or flax oil based) for lunch, and then a traditional dinner (staying away from the trans fats, white flour, and the stuff you know is unhealthy). Natalia Rose's "Raw Food Detox Diet" recommended doing it phases, and I agree. Whatever you do, I DON'T recommend starting out with the book "Raw Foods For Busy People" like I did. That book didn't provide enough information for beginners and highly recommended buying a dehydrator. You don't need a dehydrator right away, and I stopped using it due to the noise and I hated cleaning it. Maybe if my life ever gets less busy I'l try another dehydrator recipe, but for now it is staying in my cupboard. Hope this review helps!

Author: Guest I was really surprised how good the green smoothies were. It has only been a few days and I can already notice a small difference in my health. Thanks for a great book!

Author: Guest Greens consumed in this form are easy to take in and make the cravings go away, the mood swings go away, the hair thick, and the skin smooth and firm. The greens also pump you with energy, and amazingly cause weight loss, even when you consume as many calories as before. I cannot sit still because of my renewed vitality, and my best friend who also drinks the green stuff just did her mountain bike trail ride in record time. Victoria just might solve the healthcare crisis--I am serious. I am a happy primate who is finally consuming my native diet-- and I salute Victoria Boutenko for her free thinking and this great contribution to human wellness.
Moreover, my concept of abundance has expanded. I look outside and see the green and quietly note that I am absolutely surrounded by this vital foodstuff that happens to bring me higher in every way. We humans do truly live in abundance and would be wise to preserve it.

Author: Guest This book inspired me to go green! I knew it would be good; I actually postponed the publication of my own raw food book 6 months while waiting for this one to come out so I could include the study in my book. It was worth the wait.
I have witnessed live the transformation in the Boutenkos. Much more radiance!

Author: Guest I really enjoyed reading "Green for Life." I am a raw vegan. But I found that anyone, whether they are raw or not, would get some great information out of this book. She does a great job of explaining 1)why greens are so important, 2) how to incorporate more greens into anyone's diet, and 3) why green smoothies are an optimal way to get more greens into the diet. Easy read with great information for anyone!
