The Field : The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe

Description

Product Description

Today nearly everyone is familiar with holograms, three-dimensional images projected into space with the aid of a laser. Now, two of the world's most eminent thinkers -- University of London physicists David Bohm, a former protege of Einstein's and one of the world's most respected quantum physicists, and Stanford neurophysiologist Karl Pribram, one of the architects of our modern understanding of the brain -- believe that the universe itself may be a giant hologram, quite literally a kind of image or construct created, at least in part, by the human mind. This remarkable new way of looking at the universe explains now only many of the unsolved puzzles of physics, but also such mysterious occurrences as telepathy, out-of-body and near death experiences, "lucid" dreams, and even religious and mystical experiences such as feelings of cosmic unity and miraculous healings.

I have to admit, once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. But one soon gets the sense the author is so desperate/enthusiastic to believe in these phenomena that his views are obviously biased, and he fails to balance his 'beliefs' with scientific fact (or is it that he avoids delving in too deep in the fear his theories will be disproved and his precious beliefs shattered?) For instance he fails to acknowledge or account for those who have experienced horrifying NDE's (and there are many!!).

Despite the fact he fails to provide convincing scientific evidence, I still found it quite fascinating and thought provoking.

Yes, yes, yes. With an open mind, this makes perfect sense.

Let the nay-sayers go their own way because they are stuck on their own beliefs like addicts. I do like that analogy Michael Talbot.

I say in my title "see author Jane Roberts" because in her books as dictate by "Seth" these very same ideas were put forth as truths many years ago. And I do mean in detail.

Try these for starters:

-The Nature of Personal Reality

-The "Unknown" Reality volumes 1 and 2

-The Oversoul Seven Trilogy

Also, do not miss the site from Cynthia Sue Larson

This is a great book. The first time I read it in 2001 I could not put it down. I am now reading it again. For someone like me with no science or physics background, he made everything easy to understand.

This book attempts to prove that the universe has similar characteristics to a hologram. But the term 'universe' here goes far beyond the physical universe. I also includes other dimensions such as where people go when they are in between lives.

Those other dimensions are like looking at the hologram from different angles I guess and the past and future are already contained in this hologram.

A holograph is created by combining the images of an object with another image of that same object that has been reflected from mirrors. If a holographic image is broken apart each fragment contains the 'memory' of the entire image and can be used to reconstruct the entire image. I don't think anyone knows how this is possible.

This is then related to the holographic universe consisting of a direct image from 'God' and an indirect reflection of God from us:

"...our universe is constantly created and sustained by two wavelike flows, one from heaven and one coming from our own soul or spirit."

However it gets into a lot of new age topics which will mainly be interesting if you're a new ager. I am so I found it interesting.

There's a quite a few places where it talks about various things and then throws in the word 'hologram' once in awhile to remind the reader about the title of the book.

This is a good book if you want to find out about other new age authors and topics for further reading. It pulls in everything from mythology to UFOs.

Recommended further reading:

This book is very thought provoking and I believe it to be truth. My theory on reality is almost parallel to the holographic idea, but I wouldn't give it a name or call it holographic. Most of the world trusts in physical science and when something happens that can't be explained with "laws" or even good theories, they call it the devil or trickery/illusions. What is illusion really when anything is possible? The power of belief is powerful.
