| The natural beauties of Florida find some young champions in Hoot, based on the young adult novel by satirical crime writer Carl Hiaasen. While trying to resist being bullied on the school bus, Roy (Logan Lerman, Jack & Bobby) becomes intrigued by a barefoot boy running frantically along the sidewalk. As he investigates, Roy learns that a nearby construction site is a habitat for a protected species of burrowing owl and that a tough girl at his school named Beatrice (Brie Larson, Sleepover) has some connection with the barefoot boy, who has some connection with vandalism at the construction site. Hoot has been attacked by conservative critics for promoting eco-terrorism--a charge most viewers may find overheated--but the movie's real weakness isn't political but artistic; the clumsy dialogue barely sounds like human speech and the plot takes some hard-to-believe turns. At one point, as part of protecting the burrowing owls and their chicks, a kid releases poisonous cottonmouth snakes onto the construction site; apparently his ecological knowledge doesn't include the feeding habits of these snakes, which eat birds. The colorful scenery and the affable presence of Luke Wilson (Bottle Rocket, Old School) keep the movie alive. Also featuring Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Holes) and singer Jimmy Buffett, whose tropical honky-tonk bubbles up all over the soundtrack. --Bret Fetzer Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest IT'S NOT QUITE NARNIA BUT IT'S BETTER THAN HOLES. HERE ARE THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS MOVIE.
1.THE OWLS
2.A SURPRISE APPEARENCE BY JIMMY BUFFET
3.THE DIRECTOR IS WIL SHRINER (WHOM I JUST FOUND IS THE DIRECTOR OF MANY "EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND")
4.CURLY THE FORMAN, WELL!
HERE ARE THE BAD THINGS ABOUT THIS MOVIE.
1.THE ENDING IS JUST A STAR SHORT OF THE BOOKS AND NOT SO IMPRESSIVE
2.A LOT OF SCEENS IN THIS TAKE PLACE IN THE DAY WHILE OTHERS IN THE BOOK ARE AT NIGHT
I PLAN TO BUY THIS.

Author: Guest First, this is a really good movie for both kids and parents. If you've read the book, the movie follows the book very well. Of course, the movie doesn't have the depth of the characters like the book does (what can you do in an under 2-hour movie?), but the movie is a fun movie with no foul language, no violence, and a storyline that both parents and kids will enjoy. The worst thing that happens in the movie is that a school bully gets tied to a flagpole in his undershorts. Both my 8-year old daughter and I read the book and we loved the movie. We were disappointed that the movie didn't stay at the theatres longer (frankly, Hoot is better than most movies we've seen). It didn't get enough publicity or something. If you've read any of Carl Hiassen's adult books, Hoot is in the same genre, yet doesn't contain the level of macabre humor -- he's scaled it back to what kids should encounter. Hoot has several other reasons to see it -- it was filmed in Florida and has some great cinematography of the Keys, the music is mostly Jimmy Buffett, and Jimmy has a cameo role as Roy's teacher -- that's a lot for one movie!
The movie DVD will be a great investment, as it's a movie to see over and over. The book is also a great read -- a nice gift for kids 8 and older.

Author: Guest Hoot
Rating: PG for some mild bullying and some language
May 5th, 2006
Hoot is based on the best selling book by Carl Hiaasen, which I have read numerous of times. Teaching us all a life-wise message about to care for the enviremont. Seeing the movie the first day it came out, I quite enjoyed it. It was funny, heart warming, and it was cute when the owls poked their heads out of their burrows.
Roy is the new kid in Florida, moving from Montana. Since his dad has a job that moves him around a lot, they pack up and move with him.
Having a gigantic bully, bully him a lot, it is hard to make it "home" worthy. As the big bully pushes his head up against the window one day on the bus, he sees a bare-footed boy run as fast as anyone he ever saw. That same day, a girl gets mad at him for no reason, and he wonders why she dosen't tell him.
The running boy is Mullet Fingers, and it just so happens that the mad girl's name was Beatrice, Mullet Fingers's brother. They share a lot of secrets together, being extremley close to one-another. They share a secret that starts a beautiful journey about a construction site and some owls.
Despite the efforts of the bully, a funny and dim witted policeman (Luke Wilson), and an executive with the pancake company who has a secret of his own, the three kids find a way to discover the truth and bring happiness to everyone and the owls.
A movie for the "Bird Person" or anyone that just loves nature. Being a fan of flamingos, I just had to see this movie, even though it didn't have any flamingos in it, it had birds, so that satisfyed me. Showing a message, this movie is particularly for everyone, not "The Small Fry" of the "Old Folk", but for everyone because it dosen't matter how old you are, it demonstrates the message perfectly.
Hope you enjoy!

Author: Guest Super family movie, great for all ages! This is a movie that will inspire your children to see the small things in life can make a difference, all you have to do is care. Roy, the main character, is a teen aged boy and a new implant in a Florida coastal neighborhood, as his father has moved them once again due to his job. As Roy is challenged to make new friends at his new school, he looks to a friendship that comes with dangerous mischief and finds himself an unlikely hero inspired by his law practicing dad. He identifies that a large contracting firm is about to bulldoze right over the natural habitat of a nationally protected wood owl. Corporate pressures and big dollars generated by the proposed Pancake House threaten the livelyhood of these precious baby owls. Roy and his new friends fight the contracting firm with smart distractions and legal loop holes. This is a feel good movie and has well developed characters. This story is based on a true story, unreal!
RECOMMENDED!
