How To Enjoy Your Life And Your Job

Description

Product Description
"Those who don't know how to fight worry, die young." This ominous advice begins Dale Carnegie's bestseller, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, an eight-part treatise on the follies of worrying. Like other Carnegie books, this one is packed with good old-fashioned common sense, illustrated with examples drawn from research on historical figures and interviews with business leaders. Somehow, even the most simple advice--such as Carnegie's four-step method of problem solving--is presented in a way that makes you want to write it down and post it on the employee bulletin board. Narrated by the resonant and engaging voice of Andrew McMillan and loaded with relevant real-life examples, this unabridged audiobook maintains interest throughout. (Running time: 10.5 hours, eight cassettes) --Sharon Griggins

I was incredulous when I read a prior reviewer (from Taiwan, as it happens) who, regarding the AUDIO edition of Carnegie's renowned book, opined that the narrator's tone was "not emphatic" enough. Perhaps the edition he has features some other narrator than does the edition commonly sold in the USA, which features the HIGHLY effective Andrew MacMillan. Mr. MacMillan's "slightly folksy yet consummately professional" tone is the perfect fit for Carnegie's own "I'm from Missouri" approach. (I can imagine that the likes of Harry Truman would have been delighted with such a narrator if there'd been an audio version of Carnegie's book when it first appeared!)

As for Dale Carnegie's classic "self-help" book itself, well, I could go on and on, but I'd be hard-pressed to surpass what's already been said by countless fans who've justly sung its praises. Suffice it to say that this book--freely available via public libraries and used bookstores nationwide--should be on virtually everyone's shelf. If every troubled mind or heart were simply to digest this book from cover to cover, very likely many (grossly overpaid and overrated) psychologists would be out of business. (I scarcely exaggerate!)

Whenever you're having one of those occasional "blue" or even "desperate" periods (or perhaps merely the odd sleepless night), resort to this "old friend"--either its printed or its (unabridged) audio incarnation. It can't hurt, and it very likely can help.

When I bought this book, I was so depressed and I felt like all my effort was no meanings. I couldn't accept anything including myself.

I didn't expect very much but the book was much worthier than I imagined.

I read the book over five years ago but I still remember some valiable statements ans suggestiong, and sometimes I remind them myself.

Such as, forget about your lost finger, you lost it and there is nothing you can do, forget it then move on.

Or, make you busy can be a medicine when you have a serious sufferring such as lost a family member.

Or, people don't kick a dead dog. Which is my favorite one.

Or, if people thank you for you have done for them that is like a beautiful rose, if people don't that is a nature, nothing problem.

Or more.

This book is like my mental medicine and I still have been taking it.

If you got so angry about unfaireness or you feel like nothing is going to work on your life, try it.

This is a great book. The author delivers the solution from worry on a silver plate. This book will be an excellent book for people under pressure; they will love on reading this book.

I also liked "The Power of Positive Habits"...it is sold out at Amazon but I found it for a discount at the Barnes & Noble website, or you can get it at "The Power of Positive Habits" website. ..the web address is the same as the book title and they are giving away over $1,000 in free e-books today!

I bought this book back when I was sixteen years old and in sixth-form college. I was having a hard time and felt depressed and scared about my future. I was very, very worried about exams and what other people thought about me and this took a mental and psychical toll. It sounds too good to be true but I read and implemented the advice in How To Stop Worrying and Start Living and my life changed. I was able to control my worrying and live a balanced life at last. I still reread the book regularly and especially when I need a boost. As Dale Carnegie says, this book should be used as a workbook for life; it is not the kind of book that you should only read once.

There are so many reasons why I love this book. To start with, it really works. But it is also easy to read and simple to understand, entertaining and utterly charming. It isn't New Agey and includes plenty of wonderful examples of normal (and well-known) people. It is a breath of fresh air in comparison to many modern self-help books. Dale Carnegie is so humble, kind and understanding. Every page is packed with down-to-earth easy to do advice. I also liked the fact that the book includes a chapter on religion and how praying to God can help you in life. However, if you aren't a believer then still get this book, as the author gives advice aimed at absolutely everybody. The book also covers just about every possible problem I can think of; depression, lack of self-esteem, death of a loved one, work issues, financial / health concerns etc.

Overall, I rate this book at highly as it is possible to. I am certainly not implying that it is a `magic pill', but if you read it and follow the advice then I truly believe that your life will change for the better. From time to time I still feel worried, but this book always provides me with the practical and caring advice I need to get myself back on track again.

This book is indeed a great book. Unfortunately, the audio version is not because its voice and tone is quite passive and un-enegetic. This hurts the result of listening to it. If it is possible, please redo it by finding a better narrator(male or female does not matter) with decisive and convincing voices.
