| This is the one jazz record owned by people who don't listen to jazz, and with good reason. The band itself is extraordinary (proof of Miles Davis's masterful casting skills, if not of God's existence), listing John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans (or, on "Freddie Freeloader," Wynton Kelly) on piano, and the crack rhythm unit of Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Coltrane's astringency on tenor is counterpoised to Adderley's funky self on alto, with Davis moderating between them as Bill Evans conjures up a still lake of sound on which they walk. Meanwhile, the rhythm partnership of Cobb and Chambers is prepared to click off time until eternity. It was the key recording of what became modal jazz, a music free of the fixed harmonies and forms of pop songs. In Davis's men's hands it was a weightless music, but one that refused to fade into the background. In retrospect every note seems perfect, and each piece moves inexorably towards its destiny. --John Szwed Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest Seriously , miles davis's music for me , i only can use one word to describe it : boring !! its just my personal taste , like hear some of his record , i cant really feel anything that will touchs me , charlie parker famous for his technique , charles mingles... cools orchestra setting , bill evans... great harmony and chord.
But Miles Davis ?? i just cant found any element that will makes me like him. kind of blue is not bad , but i just dont think its classic.

Author: Guest I've never heard him solo more beautifully, more hauntingly that he does on this album. There are very few works of art that can bring me to tears but his solos on Blue in Green and Flamenco Sketches are among the most emotional than I've ever heard.
This is the album which got me into jazz 20 years ago. Since then I have gone through various phases where I listened to different styles (hard bop, modal, soul jazz, avante garde) but invariably I always come back to this album as my favorite.
I must have listened to this album thousands of time but it always is fresh and exciting and always makes an impact.
