| For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keyes will find much to like here. --Kathleen C. Fennessy Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest Sara has had the talent for many years to create someting like this, and the recording lables are behind the times as far as signing Sara is concerned. Someone as creative and talented as Sara should have had an album out 5 years ago. Never mind the delay in release, this album is the jackpot in up coming artists. The voice, the lyrics, the rhythm and the feeling all mesh into twelve tracks called "Little Voice". This album is a must have for those of you who like jazz piano, strong powerful female voices, and music you can listen to over and over without it ever getting old.

Author: Guest Sara Bareilles has put together a wonderful CD. Thanks to the iTunes song of the week, I heard "Love Song," and the rest was history. I immediately pre-ordered the CD and it was worth the wait. I'm in love with just about every song on the CD. (There is an extended version of "Love Song" on the CD. I imagine, iTunes put out the radio edit.)
Sara has a wonderful singing voice and the lyrics are intelligent and catchy. Sara has immense musical talent and I can't wait to hear what she puts out next!

Author: Guest Sara Bareilles is the real deal - she sings like a dream, rocks the piano, and breaks out the catchy hooks like nobody's business. Her major-label debut blends the funky, soulful edge of Aretha Franklin with Natasha Bedingfield's pop sensibility, but there's no question Sara is a unique artist in her own right. If you're looking for smart, jazzy piano-pop that's easy on the ears but a step above in lyrics, pick up this album as the perfect feel-good summer soundtrack.
Lyrically and musically, the track list is solid, spanning ballads, kiss-offs to lousy ex-boyfriends and record executives, and the dreams and troubles of making it on your own. The production, while crystal clear, has its ups and downs. Most of the time Sara's vocal and the many instruments work well together, especially the drums propelling the ridiculously catchy "Morningside", a standout track that has taken over my CD player. Other highlights are the percussion on the bluesy "Many the Miles", and the gentle strings stirring in a great new version of "Gravity". But I'm not feeling the production on two of my old favorites, "Fairytale" and "Come Round Soon", which sound cluttered and overdone. Sara is the kind of artist who can carry a song on the power of her voice alone, and it's disappointing for longtime fans to hear it needlessly compressed. At the same time, take this as simply a recommendation to see her in concert. Sara's raw talent is obvious even underneath the bells and whistles, and this album still works as a strong introduction to a five-star singer. Get ready to wear out your copy.

Author: Guest Every song on this album is great. Each one could build a career, each one could be a single. They span a myriad of emotions and moods, but all run rife with the amazingly amazing vocal prowess of a girl whose voice is anything but little. 'Between the Lines' affects me as the saddest, most beautifully bittersweet pleasure for my ears. And songs I thought of as already complete from her independent release "Careful Confessions" (find it if you can and buy it at any price!) have matured considerably, and leave your ears tingling between every track.
She is as smart as she is funny as she is beautiful as she is rapturous in song. All that comes through in this little bitty jewel case.
Enjoy.

Author: Guest I first heard Sara in concert in a small venue in Seattle with my husband. Both my husband and I absolutely love her music. She is absolutely the best... a true singer/songwriter with talent that runs deep and her music moves and entertains you.
