In Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel's memoir Night, a scholarly, pious teenager is wracked with guilt at having survived the horror of the Holocaust and the genocidal campaign that consumed his family. His memories of the nightmare world of the death camps present him with an intolerable question: how can the God he once so fervently believed in have allowed these monstrous events to occur? There are no easy answers in this harrowing book, which probes life's essential riddles with the lucid anguish only great literature achieves. It marks the crucial first step in Wiesel's lifelong project to bear witness for those who died.

Author: Guest There are no words to truly describe this book; this book that reveals the most evil side of humanity. As a history major, specializing in the World War II era, the Holocaust had almost become an every-day word for me. The humanity had been taken from the subject. But, to hear the story from the perspective of one who had been inside the death camps...my heart melted! To think that people were actually put through such attrocities! Elie Wiesel's book is a work of art, opening the eyes of its readers, and not letting them forget the truly evil side oh humanity. If one wants to truly understand our civilization's past (interested in history or not) this book is a 'must read'. Once I become a teacher or professor, my students Will read this book. There is no other one like it.
Author: Guest I read this book my senior year in high school, some 10 years ago, and absolutely loved it! I could not put this book down! The details in the writing bring to life the horrible events of the holocaust and gave me more respect for a nation of people that I wasn't quite familiar with. I knew coming up as a child the bad that went on during that time in history but never knew the 'behind the scenes' details until now. I have recommended this book at least 100 times to friends and strangers alike. Of all the required reading in school I had, this book stands out beyond the rest. It is definitely more than worth the price of admission!
Author: Guest I am of Polish Catholic decent, and had relatives at Buchenwald. They would never speak of it, and now that are gone. This book made me see the reality of what my relatives went through, and why they could not speak of it. I have even more respect for them now.
