I was extremely fortunate to have been in Puerto Rico for the taping of this concert DVD and when I got my copy today, I haven't been able to stop watching it! It's the next best thing to being there and now I can relive it over and over.
This is a must have for any Ricky fan, or even if you're a casual fan and just enjoy his music. This is a brilliant masterpiece showcasing Ricky as the ultimate entertainer that he is. His vocals are strong, especially during the ballads and he wrings the emotions out of every song. Fuego de Noche, a song from his very early years, is sung with raw passion, that even if you don't speak a word of Spanish (like me), you will feel the emotion. And Asignatura Pendiente, a song about Ricky's life, is about a personal a song as you can get and the way he delivers it, makes you weak in the knees. Ricky doesn't just sing the songs, he FEELS every word and makes sure his loving, attentive audience feels it too.
And of course, what Ricky Martin concert would be complete without the fun and danceable songs that make you just want to get up and dance! To La Bomba, to Drop It On Me, to Lola Lola, he gets you right into it and you won't be able to stop moving! Ricky has a way with the audience, with his charisma, that smile and of course, those electrifying hips. And can he dance!! This is what surprised me the most during this concert - Ricky needs little choreography because he knows how to move and he is every bit a professional dancer as the rest of the dancers on stage! He is truly mesmerizing!
Some people only associate Ricky Martin with his biggest US hit, Livin' La Vida Loca, but even that song was reworked into a funky beat that sounds completely different than the original and it's contemporary and upbeat. I want to say to those people that think Ricky is a "has been", you couldn't be more wrong. I attended 9 sold out concerts on this tour, most of them in the US and he still knows how to pack them in. Ricky Martin is way more than a "pretty" face and motorized hips. He is a true showman, having been in show business since the age of 12. He is now almost 36 and if you are fortunate enough to have seen a Ricky Martin concert, you will see a much more mature Ricky, a Ricky Martin who is not only a first-rate entertainer, but a man with conviction and a huge heart. He has his own foundation to make people aware of the sexual trafficking of children (visit rickymartin.org) and works hard to make laws tougher on pedophiles. He also built many homes for the tsunami victims in Thailand and most recently, worked with President Jimmy Carter on Habitat for Humanity.
Aside from that, he still finds time to excite an audience in his tours. I attended one concert in Montreal, Canada, where he hadn't performed there since 2000 with his La Vida Loca tour. Let me tell you, he received thunderous applause and the place was packed to capacity. People remembered from seven years ago, the excitement and passion he brings to the stage with each and every performance.
This DVD is everything you want from a musical video and much, much more. Buy one for every member in your family, because he appeals to every age group. And for 2 hours, you will be entertained like never before!! Enjoy!!

I just received my pre-ordered copy of the CD/DVD combo from Tribeca. I watched the video yesterday! I loved it! I attended the concert in Anaheim on September 29th and the DVD is an excellent reminder of the most amazing and exciting concert I have ever attended. Seeing Ricky on stage in his native Puerto Rico was a thrill. There are two songs that really stand out for me on this DVD.
First is "La Bomba" I was totally blown away at the concert to see this number done at break neck speed. The regular release was done in about 4.5 minutes. The MTV Unplugged release was slightly slower and ran about 5.5 minutes. In the Black and White tour they did the whole number in probably 2.5 minutes! I stood there in awe as I watched it live on stage and laughed so hard I almost fell out. It's captured here on video for posterity! Great show Ricky!
The second great thing was to see La Marie sing "Tu Recuerdo" with Ricky. When they recorded the song for Unplugged she had just undergone breast cancer surgery and they hadn't been able to rehearse before recording it. She did an excellent job then. Here we are a few years later and she has recovered very well and looks BONITA! It was great to see her healthy and happy, they really shared a moment on stage in PR and I think you'll enjoy it! That alone is worth the price!
