| Songbird cherry-picks tracks from the three locally released albums of Eva Cassidy, whose hauntingly beautiful vocals went virtually unheard outside her native Washington, D.C., during her short 33 years with us. Lost to melanoma in 1996, Cassidy sang with an unaffected purity and an astonishing ability to make both classic and contemporary songs sound like they were written just for her. Sting's "Fields of Gold" finally lives up to its title through the alchemy of Cassidy's transcendent rendition, while other tracks on this anthology showcase her ease in the realms of pop (Christine McVie's "Songbird"), soul ("People Get Ready"), gospel ("Wade on the Water"), and traditional standards ("Autumn Leaves" and "Over the Rainbow"). Framed by understated jazz and pop arrangements, Cassidy's clear, soulful voice and exquisite phrasing make her that rarest of vocalists whose interpretations are a complement to any song. A fine introduction to a true talent. --Billy Grenier Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest Eva had such a clear, beautiful voice! Her renditions of old jazz numbers are individualized by her unique artistry. She had perfact pitch and an ability to steep her own style into the finished product. What a tribute to a great musician!

Author: Guest WARNING: Each song Eva Cassidy sings is like a tiny bottle of nitroglycerin; it seems innocuous at first, but let it out of the bottle and it will utterly devastate you.
Let me be clear: I don't enjoy female "pop" singers. Give me the soulful blues guitar of Stevie Ray Vaughan over the shallow vocal histrionics of Whitney Houston any day. And that still stands, because I don't "enjoy" Eva Cassidy either---
Why? Because Eva Cassidy is far beyond the level of enjoyment. She does something to me that is rare and magical and religious and painful and mystical. She touches that spot inside me that still remembers what Heaven was like---and makes me conscious of the fact that I'm not there now. She makes me miss home with a longing that is almost unbearable. She reaches right into me and rips me apart, cuts through to what is real and exposes me to the painful truth of love and mortality. She reminds me of who I truly am.
I can only listen to a single song at a time--because after that, I'm done for the day.
Don't fool around with this unless you're prepared for the consequences.
I'm not kidding.
You have been warned.

Author: Guest Eva Cassidy knocks me out! I heard about her on NPR a couple of years ago, and I finally got some of her music. Astounding the way she phrased these songs. "Autumn Leaves" could make a statue cry. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "Songbird" and "Fields of Gold" are equally amazing. Anyone who truly appreciates a styling genius will find her music rewarding.

Author: Guest Her voice is gorgeous, just like a songbird!!!! So sad that she is now singing with the angels, before more of her works could be published.

Author: Guest I heard Fields of Gold on the season finale of Everwood and thought whoever was singing it had a beautiful voice. When I hear a song I like I usually just have to find out who sings it. I did a little research and found that it was Eva Cassidy. I tried to download the song from ITunes but couldn't find it. Soooo, my next stop was Amazon. I searched for Eva Cassidy, found the CD, and bought it. I really like the whole CD. Her music is very soothing to me. My favorite songs are Wade in the Water, Over the Rainbow, and Fields of Gold. I ordered Time After Time and just received it several days ago. I've listened to some of the songs, but not the entire CD just yet. Eva Cassidy has a beautiful voice.
