| Call it Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The College Years or Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Boys, but the horror series Supernatural delivers some of the most satisfying small-screen scares in recent memory. The premise is deceptively simple: brothers Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki from Gilmore Girls and Jensen Ackles, both appealing) travel the darker corners of the American landscape in search of their father, who's gone missing while hunting the malevolent forces that lead to the death of their mother. In the course of their search, the siblings encounter a host of otherworldly creatures, including vampires, ghosts, and witches, as well as such distinctly American phenomena as the urban-legend favorite the Hook ("Hookman"), monsters from Native American mythology ("Wendigo"), and fearful figures from children's games ("Bloody Mary"). Supernatural's integration of elements from American pop culture and folklore, combined with its skilled cast and crew (creator/co-writer Erik Kripke delivered 2005's Boogeyman, while director/executive producer David Nutter is a veteran of The X-Files and Millennium), and better-than-average attempts at atmosphere and suspense place the series well above the other spookshow programs that arrived on networks at about the same time (Invasion, Night Stalker), and should hold considerable appeal for fans of frightful fare. The six-disc set contains all 22 episodes of the debut season, with commentary by Ackles and Padalecki on "Phantom Traveler" and Nutter, Kripke, and producer Peter Johnson on the pilot episode; two making-of documentaries (one on the show itself, and the other on its stars), as well as a brace of unaired scenes and a gag reel round out the set. For those with DVD-ROM capabilities, the set also includes a link to a web site which offers a sneak preview at season 2 and the pilot script, among other bonus features. --Paul Gaita Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest I accidentally ran into this series. I was surprised of how good it really was. The acting is superb and the writing - well, we know where all the screen writers went now don't we?
This is a big BUY for anyone who likes exception work - whether you are into scary stuff or not. It is SO well done that, well, I don't mind it being scary.
The season finale was totally awesome. This is the ultimate in character development of Good versus Evil - and the brothers are developed as real characters.
Love this show.
The only question is: Can they keep up the surprises and twists in Season 2?
Buy it!

Author: Guest When the show first aired, I didn't think it would be much more than the usual tv fluff. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it both immensely entertaining, full of humor and wit, as well as full of unexpected depth. The emotional quest that the brothers go on, while searching for their father and fighting assorted bad things, is very compelling. Over the course of the season real character growth happens. And that alone, is worth the price of admission. Two wonderful actors with great chemistry, fun and spooky cases, an underlying story that the PTB have clearly invested a lot of thought in: this show has it all.

Author: Guest I am new to Supernatural, but I rented the season on Netflix and now I'm scrambling to watch the new season, and to purchase the dvds. This is an excellent show, made even better by the relationship between Dean and his brother Samuel which is very heartwarming.
This is a series about family, responsibilities and hardship. Sam and Dean are true warriors trying to save humanity from a variety of supernatural scourages (ghosts, demons, evil creatures of all stripe)while searching for their dad. I particularly love the character Dean. Some of his lines are excellent: "Dude you fugly..." and "Your, uh, half-caf, double-vanilla latte is gettin' cold over here, Francis." Sam is great too, but his lines are less memorable because his character doesn't have Dean's snarky sense of humor.
There are some episodes that are seriously creepy and may be too intense for young viewers (hence the TV14 rating), episode such as the Pilot, Provenance, and Asylum did make my skin crawl.
I think my favorite episodes were Scarecrow, Route 666, Faith, and Devil's trap. I can't wait until my DVD set arrives.

Author: Guest I wish I got the WB channel out here in the country. I am subject to sattelite TV (with only the channels I can afford), have dial up internet, and the icy commute to town for 1/2 hour in the winter - and the bug riddled windshields in the summer. So, I appreciate being able to hole up at home and find a good DVD series that I don't regret buying on Amazon.com [...]......and SUPERNATURAL is a GREAT show!
Jensen Ackles, as Dean, the eldest of the spook-fighting brother team, is a fine actor (I've been a fan of his since seeing him the 1st time on Dark Angel) and I'm glad to see that he finally got his big shot at a lead acting role. The writers, however, as good of a job that they do on this show, should take advantage of his talents and refrain from the soap opera-type freeze shots. I am sure that he puts in a lot of his own ideas for the character, on set. Maybe they can get some of those writers over from Dark Angel to help out? Or maybe you do, what ever, but I think more FUN PERSONALITY, instead of the bickering and brooding stuff, makes shows more interesting. Especially when you combine some humor with the horror, I can take my hand off of my eyes on those terribly predictable (yet still, horrifying) suspenceful BOO shots!
The 1st time I ever saw Jeffrey Morgan (as the dad, John Winchester), was just recently on the 2nd season DVD series of Grey's Anatomy. Wow, what a fine actor, and a plus to this show as the father of Dean & Sam! I'd totally believe anything he said, as crazy as it seemed! And he looks so much like an older version of Robert Downey, Jr., that if he was available (and able) to act on this show as some kind of relative, or younger version of the dad, it would be so incredible!
Speaking of younger versions: the better episodes are the ones that show their earlier years. It makes it more interesting to know some history of the characters, and started to make me believe these boys had the abilities to fight the supernatural demons they encountered each show. It was slower for me, in the beginning, to really take to the show because of this.
Over all, though, I think this show from the beginning of the Pilot to the end of the 1st season, which I have just finished watching, has great promise.
And McG...YOU ROCK! There should be more people in show business like you, Joss Wheden & JJ Abrahms!
Keep up the good work -I look forward to NEXT YEAR, when I can purchase the 2nd season!

Author: Guest I just started watching Supernatural Season 2 and was immediately hooked! I look forward to Thursday nights every week anticipating the next episode. Both actors are wonderful and great to watch, not to mention quite handsome, too. I remembered Jensen Ackles from Days of Our Lives and Jared Padalecki from House of Wax. I also absolutely love Charmed, so this fits in perfectly since Charmed has ended. I finally ordered Season 1 and can't wait til it comes. I will enjoy my nights watching them over and over and over again!! I love magic and "scary stuff"! Already wanting Season 2 out. Can ya tell I'm a big fan of their show now? Supernatural totally rocks!!! It's to die for! Absolutely superb! I'm watching this when I should be doing classwork, but oh well. Rock on!!
