I totally agree with you Carlos. I know this movie won't get any Oscars or Grammys or anything of that sort but who cares. I went an seen the movie twice I thought about a third time but never got back before it was taken out of the theater. I was thoroughly entertained by the movie it took me away from reality for a couple of hours which was nice, granted the cute boys helped out alot there to but that is neither here nor there. Everyone has their own taste in movies so to make your decision soley on what people say on here you may just miss out. I've looked at what people have commented about things I'd considered buying an they may have the worst reviews but I decide why not go an buy it. Then after watching or reading what I decided on buying I enjoyed it and am glad I didn't let the poor reviews sway my decision. So for those of you out there that are on the fence about this movie just go out an rent it. And try to remember that its not an A-List top of the line movie but it does have some pretty sweet graphics and effects. But I'm pretty sure if you rent it an don't like it then it probably isn't the first or last your gonna rent an not like.

An yes they need to make a 2nd one and of course with the original cast to show the other 3 ascending into their powers. An I have to say my best friend the one in our group that is most critical on movies the one that thought I was crazy on alot of the movies I like, she enjoyed it alot. So when January 2nd comes around I'll definately be buying this movie and makin a space on my dvd shelf for it.

Ok, if you're a young teenager with all the things young teenagers are raging with, then you could like this movie. However, if you like movies that don't insult your intelligence you might want to look elsewhere. Let me first say that I saw this purely on spontaneity. I was in the movie line, saw the poster, and decided to try it after asking the teenage ticket taker if it was any good. I should have gone to Talladega Nights.

The Covenant is Harry Potter meets the Matrix, with a twist of horror. It follows a group of four young men whose bloodline has been infused with a terrible power. Each is bound by a covenant of secrecy. However, when the body of a dead student is discovered, secrets start to unravel and a traitor is found in their midst. The movie is full of heavy metal, scantly-clad teens, and a couple scary scenes. I found it annoying how the lighting and thunder was constant throughout the whole movie. Couldn't they think of something else to use for dramatic emphasis? The acting was stiff and emotionless. You could tell the people were models, not actors. The final battle-scene was nothing more than a cheap Matrix rip-off (at best). At this point of the movie, I had the stifle laughter because I couldn't take anything serious.

I'm just going to level with you, the reader, and say I couldn't wait to get out of the theatre when this was done. I was genuinely embarrassed for being there and by the looks of the people around me, I wasn't alone. Everyone was squeezing to get out of the theatre fast. As something on the Sci-Fi channel this wasn't terrible, but as a full-blown movie where you buy popcorn and bring friends this should have never happened.

I give 5 stars to this movie not because it is the best movie I've ever seen, but because I enjoyed the movie good enough, because I fell in love with the beautiful cast (I can't wait to get the DVD), because the simply plot was well done, nice visual effects, and the most important: I was not bored to death like many movies taking too long to develope a drama. I know, it won't win any Oscar, but It won a place in my DVD collection. I hope they make a 2nd part, same cast with more action, maybe some drama?

oops I forgot, I loved the scenography used here, the house like old mansion was great gave a lot of spirit to the movie, the old barns were spooky. Also there were used many dark blue/green outside shots, tons of dark clouds, heavy rain and fog, they gave an interesting ambient to this film. Me and my friends totally enjoyed this movie, and want to see it again.

I went and seen this movie on my girlfriend's suggestion...

that's the last time she chooses.

This bomb is a bland mix of Harry Potter, Emily Rose, The Matrix and The

Lost Boys. The plot is asinine: 4 college warlocks visit various

locations so they can use there highly dark powers to do impressive

things like start-up a car engine, repair a shattered windshield, spy on a nude woman showering (which was the highlight of the film), win at a pool game and cheat in a swimming competition, there were plenty more, but too silly to remember. Soon after, a new student is taken under the wing of the all-powerful Caleb, the grinning leader of the Warlocks. Unbeknownst to them, this new guy is even more powerful in the art of witchcraft than anyone might expect. His nefarious scheme is to steal Caleb's power on the night when Caleb "ascends", which also happens to be his birthday. Of course one warlock can only gain the power of another warlock by him willing him his power, by saying, "I will you my power." I know, great stuff. Oh yeah, and they age drastically every time their eyes turn black, which is really a high price to pay for throwing each other into walls and piles of garbage.

The atmosphere of the movie is utter dreariness. The Academy they attend is always abysmally dark and bombarded with heavy rainfall, which is a nice effect for a horror movie, but just seems so out of place here. And at times you wonder if anyone even lives in these dorms except for the few actresses that have the hots for our film's "heroes".

The special effects are nothing you haven't seen before; guys throwing balls of transparent energy Street Fighter style, cheesy high-wire fighting, and of course slow-motion bodies coursing through the air Matrix style.

This is just another typical release of more cynical Hollywood occult material made to look glamorous by attractive young actors and "eye-popping" special effects. If witchcraft, spells and young actors in their underwear is appealing to you, then the Covenant might be your cup of tea, if not, avoid at all costs.

The descendants of the founding families of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Caleb (Strait), Reid (Hemingway), Sims (Crawford), and Pogue (Kitsch), are kids who have it all. Including witch-like powers inherited from their ancestors. At the age of 18, which Caleb will hit first, they will "ascend" into their mature powers. The catch is that every time they use their powers, it ages them. On the eve of Caleb's ascension, the group finds that someone else is using their powers to cause trouble. Now, they must find out who it is and put a stop to it before people start getting hurt.

"The Covenant" is a disappointing movie. And to be fair, I was not expecting much. I suppose it is a horror movie, but it is never really scary. The acting is weak, and the action is less than impressive. Director Renny Harlin is far from his glory days of directing "Die Hard 2", and one cannot help but wonder if it is time to retire from directing. He is clearly on a downward spiral that didn't start too high to begin with. The only way I can recommend this movie, is to wait for its inevitable cable tv showing on the SciFi channel. And then only for laughs.
