| Composition teachers throughout the English-speaking world have been pushing this book on their students since it was first published in 1957. Co-author White later revised it, and it remains the most compact and lucid handbook we have for matters of basic principles of composition, grammar, word usage and misusage, and writing style. Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Contact us if you are one of them, and wish to change the above description. |

Author: Guest As a junior English major at ASU pulling a 4.0, I have to say that this book has been essential to my studies and success. I refer to it at least 2 to 3 times a week. College English students? BUY IT! Another gem: David Kennedy's "How to Ace Your Way Through College and Still Have a Life"... there's tricks in there you won't find anywhere. One more tip: Get a 2006 World Almanac... the BEST resource for students.

Author: Guest This book was highly recommended by my instructor. I have to admit, it has become more than I thought it would. It has come in handy more than once! If you have been away from writing for a while, or just getting into it, try this book.

Author: Guest It's funny, when I was studying creative writing with Frank McCourt, there was no mention of this book in his classroom. And in my conversations with Neil Strauss, "Style" himself never once brought up this book on Style. Who is it, then, that reads this little manual? Academics?
Everything it says is important, but the most imporant aspect of great writing is clear and engaging communication.
You can read this book, but you might do better to read the best writers. McCourt, Strauss, Hemingway, Hunter S. Thompson, E.L. Doctrow, Tom Wolfe -- now there's a syllabus for learning the elements of Style.

Author: Guest We've tested several style and grammar texts to support our business writing/self-presentation workshop, but nothing can touch Strunk & White. Adults who are polishing their writing so they can be more promotable and more successful need a quick, clear, user-friendly reference they can use while holding down demanding jobs, and this one is unsurpassed. Many newer books take longer to say what Strunk & White learned to say in just a few pages, and aren't as clear. We're fans.
