| Washington, D.C.'s Thievery Corporation purvey a very mellow, deliberately international mixture of sounds that might be called "lounge music"--not in the kitschy sense, but in the sense of a laid-back local bar (much like the one the duo happens to run) with no dance floor. Rob Garza and Eric Hilton are professed admirers of Brazilian music, and they're determined to inject as much warmth into electronic music as possible. The Mirror Conspiracy is quite a musical travelogue, starting in Jamaica with "Treasures." This dubby opening track, which features vocalist Brother Jack, is quite reminiscent of the start of Swayzak's Himawari. Next up is "Le Monde," a quiet, wah-wah-inflected song featuring a chanteuse named Lou Lou. She reappears later on the somewhat more uptempo "Shadows of Ourselves," which, despite the title, is also sung in French. "The Hong Kong Triad" sounds like a tip of the hat to Shaft-styled soundtrack music. Elsewhere, it's off to India for two sitar-flavored tracks with a similarly laidback groove that gets a bit closer to techno, one of which, "Lebanese Blonde" (hash? a woman?), has been released as a single. Brazil gets its due on the densely percussive "Air Batucada," the more bossa nova-like "So Com Voce," and an instrumental titled "Samba Tranquille." Fans of this style are sure to be pleased. --Bob Bannister Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest The electric mix, downbeat style and sound is hypnotizing and seductive while seasonally spiced with jazz and samba.
This album is a must buy for hip fans or everone else who's not familiar with Thievery Corporation...

Author: Guest I finally got this album and it is exactly what I have been looking for: short tracks of relaxing trippy house. There are lots of middle eastern effects, which add to the music and rhythm of the album. It is just a joy to finally find a relaxing house album.

Author: Guest The kind of album with many decent songs but few amazing ones, Mirror Conspiracy does fulfill on it's promise of one fluid world electronic mystique of an experience, if slightly generic and exploitive of it's supposed influences. Rationalizing aside, this still beats the beats of the majority slop passing for club music to these days. With enough variety to constitute Thievery's eclectic mix, this is good "chillout"(whatever people actually do when calling it that) music for fans already initiated into the Massive Attack legions of somewhat creative beat influenced work, neither overwhelming with innovation nor dulling with a lack thereof. One thing is certain, this unit could potentially have a sound that creates a far more compelling atmosphere then their chilled but less involving style more akin to this album's closer, but that is just my (way to serious for my own good) taste!

Author: Guest The Mirror Conspiracy is another great blend of electronica, lounge, raga, afro-beat, latin-stylings and downright cool tunes. There are a lot of musical stylings going on. The World element really makes this album shine. I like the Jazzy element too, it reminds me a bit of "Air", "Spicehouse" and "Nuspirit Helsinki". If you're familiar with Thievery Corporation then you'll be familiar with their engrossing downbeat style and sound. If you're not familiar with Thievery Corporation - then you should be. There are a few points where the tracks jolt your ear because they don't blend into the album as well as the others. That said this cd is not one to miss.
