| Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire) made his first English-language film with this 1984 fantasy about a boy (Barret Oliver) visualizing the stories of a book he's reading. The imagined tale involves another boy, a warrior (Noah Hathaway), and his efforts to save the empire of Fantasia from a nemesis called the Nothing. Whether or not the scenario sticks in the memory, what does linger are the unique effects, which are not quite like anything else. Plenty of good fairy-tale characters and memorable scenes, and the film even encourages kids to read. --Tom Keogh Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest I Loved this movie when I was a kid, what a wonderful movie for kids, its full of adventure, mystery, and amazing creatures all along for the write to save Fantasia! I love this movie and I'm keeping it for when I have kids so they can enjoy it as much as I did.

Author: Guest My twin sons watched this constantly when they were little. They're 22 now and I bought it for one of them as a "just because I love you" gift and he was thrilled! It remains one of our all-time absolute favorite movies. I'm going to buy my 2-year old grandson a copy for Christmas.

Author: Guest What I liked about The Neverending Story is that what appears to be a framing device - a boy reading a book of adventures that comprise the bulk of the film - actually turns out to be an integral part of the whole premise. The boy reading is actually important to what he's reading about, sort of the flipside of what we accept as reality. Bastian (Barret Oliver) skips class after arriving too late for a math test, and spends the time reading The NeverEnding Story, about the fantastic characters of Fantasia, which is slowly succumbing to "nothingness."
In the story, which is almost like another film within the film, plains warrior Atreyu (Noah Hathaway) is sent on a quest to stop the nothingness. His adventures are as entertaining - with imaginative and often poignant action - as almost any fantasy movie like Lord Of The Rings or Harry Potter, though with twenty-year older special effects. But as it appears Atreyu's about to fail in his quest, Bastian's own role is revealed very dramatically, and the whole result is quite profound.

Author: Guest I absolutely love this film, and I always have. If there is anyone who is still watching it on tape, you must see it on DVD for the widescreen cinematography. My question here, is why on Earth has Warner Brothers NOT released a special edition. I would love to see it completely remastered w. DTS or 5.1 Dolby, not to mention some special features given how well this film has held up, and how long it has remained popular. If "Legend" got a 2 disc deluxe treatment, it would be a crime for the studio to not to give this one the same.

Author: Guest I get upset when people give this movie one star just because it actualy has an ending; to me that is really immature :) But anyway, I saw this movie in theaters when it came out and it's my all-time favorite movie. To today's standards the special effects aren't much, but to me the overall story is great. The movie is scary for young children and, being older, It is actualy depressing, but it redeems itself in the end. Of course movies are different than books most of the time, since they are adaptions. The story is neverending because it can be watched again and the book can be read again and again and again. I think this will stay a classic for those who first saw it as children, otherwise, I don't know :) At the very least, the theme song is pretty cool and was even featured in two Dance Dance Revolution games. p.s. Bastian yells out MOONCHILD.
