| Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't competed as a bodybuilder since he won the Mr. Olympia title in 1980, but he remains the sport's No. 1 icon. He hosts an annual bodybuilding contest in Columbus, Ohio, and allows a column to be ghost-written under his name in a muscle magazine. Today's bodybuilders may have bigger muscles than Arnold ever did, but everyone inside and outside the iron game gives him credit for exponentially broadening the popularity of physique training. With this updated Encyclopedia (it was originally published in 1985), Schwarzenegger wraps his huge arms around the entire sport. He hits the history of bodybuilding, the champions (he's quite generous in his praise of predecessors, contemporaries, and successors alike), the training systems. Some of the information is more bodybuilding lore than science; for example, exercises are said to "expand the rib cage" or develop the "inner" or "outer" chest, all physiological impossibilities. But they're still good exercises, and the book includes every movement imaginable for every muscle group. If you love the sport of bodybuilding, you'll want this book in your library, if for no other reason than to feast your eyes on the hundreds of photos of the best physiques in the history of the sport. And, in a pinch, the 800-page encyclopedia can fill in nicely for a missing dumbbell. --Lou Schuler Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest Complete coverage of body building. Especially the coverage of body muscles group and how to 'bring them out', with the perfect exercise techniques, and the powerful program in several levels.
|
Author: Guest This is the first book to read cover to cover when looking to start a weight training program. It amazes me to no end that people will look to commit to a program that will take at least 5 hours a week, and not spend a couple of hours planning the proper course of action to take.
A word to all is to take several points into consideration, and realize that there are different methods and philosophies in this as well as all things. For instance, I believe that the program in this book is overtraining a bit. This in no way decreases the value of the exercise instructtion, motivation, and history lessons that this book gives.

Author: Guest First class book on everything a person needs to know about bodybuilding, complete w/ pics, diagrams, and easy to understand explainations of exercises from the beginner level all the way up to the competition level.

Author: Guest About 1/2 of this book is useful. There is a lot of extra stuff that most people don't care about, though, and a lot of this is based on outdated routines. Arnold worked out two times a day almost every day. Only someone on high dosages of drugs and recovers much quicker can do a routine like this. Modern evidence also suggests that working out too much is couter productive and is a waste. Dorian Yates is a lot more massive than Arnold and that just shows the evolution of body building. Read the Dorian Yates book or the Mike Mentzer book first. Don't get me wrong, this is a good book but they could have made it a lot shorter and charged 1/2 the price.

Author: Guest this book is with out a doubt hands down the only resource you will need on bodybuilding and weight training. Why? Because this book covers it all from correct movements to common mistakes this book not only gives you a great foundation but a great program to follow. i hope you dont think these guys didnt take shortcuts on lifting weights. it also has posing, diet nutrition along with wonderful anantomy pictures to show you what you going for when you get your lift on. i have run in to many of lame books from some of our famous friends that sell magazines but all they do is chop this book up and make multiple books to sell to poor guys that forget that to be the best you got to train like the best. i mean honestly ask you rself this question. do you ask your barber to perform open heart surgery on you? thats because he doesnt have the educational background or credintials to prove other wise. then why would you wanna get buff from a whimpy magazine thats biggest section every month is about abs? just buy it and save yourself the money and time.
