Description

Product Description
The first edition of this workbook is regarded as a classic in its field, and was the first book to introduce trigger point therapy to the general public as a self-care tool for alleviating chronic pain caused by a variety of conditions, including arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, headache, muscle ache, and repetitive strain injuries. As the author makes clear, all such conditions are related to lack of oxygen in exhausted or injured muscle tissue. Trigger point therapy has been used for decades by doctors, pain specialists, and massage therapists to quickly stimulate the flow of oxygen and promote rapid pain reduction. This book makes the same techniques available to the general public with instructions that are easy to follow, and abetted by an extensive collection of charts and corresponding illustrations.

The author’s interest in trigger point therapy began when he used it to successfully treat his frozen shoulder. Since that time, he has dedicated himself to teaching others the same techniques. That dedication is obvious throughout his writing and the care he takes to make the therapy understandable to the lay public. Also included in this new edition is updated information that should be of great interest to pain specialists and bodyworkers, as well as useful instruction in a variety of relaxation techniques. Overall, this book is an excellent self-care resource for anyone interested in pain relief.--Larry Trivieri Jr.

This is a great self-help book. Whenever I have a pain, I try this trigger point method. I have had absolutely fantastic results!! I had an arm injury from working in the yard that resisted getting well for almost a year. The book described my symptoms perfectly and I tried the tennis ball in the various locations and this is the only treatment that has actually made a lasting improvement. I can now make pain free movements with my arm that I could not make without pain for almost a year. Recently, I had arthritic type pains in my hands and I had again been doing yard work so I decided to try the trigger point option again. To my surprise, after about 3 days, I am 80% better. I also use this approach with headaches with very good results.

I highly recommend this book and I tell anyone who will listen about the results I have obtained. However, it is important to remember that this is not an instant help on chronic conditions and it does takes repeated action to improve. But, I know it has worked for me when nothing else gave lasting improvement. It is at least worth a try!!!!!!!! You have nothing to lose but the pain. Also, the book is very easy to use with many pictures showing the location of the pain and the location of the sundry trigger points. It is also divided by body location which makes it real easy to find the area where a particular problem is located. In my opinion, this book is definitely worth reading and

it is absolutely one of the best investments I have ever made.

I bought this book 2 years ago, after being diagnosed with bilateral ischial tuberosity bursitis (basically, my butt hurt on both sides just where my hamstrings start) and sciatica. I couldn't run, and biking was iffy. Tried all sorts of chiropractic therapy which felt good, but didn't cure anything. I happened on this book in an online forum about bursitis. I bought the book, a Theracane and a massage ball and went to work.

Within only 2 weeks, I was starting to get relief! The book taught me that stretching is not always good when a muscle is littered with trigger points, among other things.

I also found out I have Morton's foot, and since making an inexpensive adjustment to my running shoes, I am having no issues there, either.

This book, IMHO, is invaluable to the serious recreational athlete who is bound to develop myofascial pains not just by doing the sports, but as a result of the REST of our lifestyle (desk jobs, etc.) in identifying and resolving pain. The pictures help you to pinpoint where you are experiencing the pain, and then you work backwards to the offending muscle.

I am constantly recommending this book to others, not as a cure-all, but as a supplement to their other wellness activities, such as stretching, massage, and if you are a fan, chiropractic (especially ART) work.

If you've ever had a pain condition that you've wrestled with getting diagnosed and/or treated, try this book. Chances are there is something in there that can help alleviate your pain.

I was suffering from computer related RSI (specifically lower back pain, and shoulder pain). My physiotherapist used to follow the Trigger point therapy, and it helped me a lot. But going daily for physiotherapy sessions was a big problem. Then I found this book on Amazon.com. It is great. Period. So many muscle related problems can be easily fixed by self-administering the trigger point therapy techniques so vividly described in this book. My shoulder/lower-back pains are almost gone; my wife's headaches have reduced and I even fixed my eye pain using the trigger point techniques given in this book. A life-changing book, if there was any. Highly recommended.

Finally some practical advice about all those aches and pains that can't seem to be explained. This book is very thorough with tons of diagrams.I even discussed it with my massage therapist!!

The first part of the book was interesting as he describes how he got interested in the subject.

The second part and the actual "doing" instructions were much too difficult for the novice.

I tried a pressure point only to discover that it was actually a place of referred pain. I still have a bruise on my arm as I pressed too hard. There was no warning that this could happen. It was my physical therapist that told me that I was pressing in the wrong place.

Basically, it was no real help to me and I regret the purchase. One needs better skills to execute the procedures. He made it sound like anyone could do this and help themselves. Lots of luck!
