The Senses
* The Tropical Bird’s exciting colors and beads in a transparent rattle that is fascinating to look at develop baby’s sight.
* Materials that offer a range of sensations (rough and smooth plastic and soft cloth that is pleasant to the touch) develop baby’s sense of touch.
* The rattle of the falling beads and the squeaking head develop baby’s hearing.
* As baby looks at the toy, feeling the different textures and listening to the sounds, he develops his sight, sense of touch and hearing, and coordination between them.
Gross Motor Skills
* When baby tries to reach his hand out to the Tropical Bird in front of him he lifts his arm as one unit, an action which starts where his arm meets his shoulder, strengthening these muscles and those all along his arm. These muscles are part of the group of muscles used to develop gross motor skills.
Fine Motor Skills
Baby uses his hands in different ways, practicing and developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Following are some activities he may perform:
* Grab the big ring with all his fingers.
* Shake the Tropical Bird to hear the sounds.
* Squeeze the head to hear the squeaking sound.
* Hold the tail, made of thin strips, using a pinch grasp.
Cognition
Your baby will learn about the connection between his actions and the effects they cause (cause & effect) when he:
* Bats at the Tropical Bird causing it to swing.
* Holds the rattle in his hand, turns it over to see the colorful beads flow or shakes it to hear the different sounds (He learns the connection between his hand movement and the volume of the noise -- the harder he shakes, the louder the noise).
* He will squeeze the head to hear the squeaking sound. |
