| This epic Lucasfilm fantasy serves up enough magical adventure to satisfy fans of the genre, though it treads familiar territory. With abundant parallels to Star Wars, the story (by George Lucas) follows the exploits of the little farmer Willow (Warwick Davis), an aspiring sorcerer appointed to deliver an infant princess from the evil queen (Jean Marsh) to whom the child is a crucial threat. Val Kilmer plays the warrior who joins Willow's campaign with the evil queen's daughter (Joanne Whalley, who later married Kilmer). Impressive production values, stunning locations (in England, Wales, and New Zealand) and dazzling special effects energize the routine fantasy plot, which alternates between rousing action and cute sentiment while failing to engage the viewer's emotions. A parental warning is appropriate: director Ron Howard has a light touch aimed at younger viewers, but doesn't shy away from grisly swordplay and at least one monster (a wicked two-headed dragon) that could induce nightmares. --Jeff Shannon Editorial Descriptions are usually submitted by the manufacturers, publishers and authors. Author: Guest This is not about being taken seriously, this is a FANTASY, and a good one at that, i don't understand why anyone would discredit it. Anyways, i saw this a long time ago and i'll never forget it, willow is played by Warwick Davis (of the Leprachaun franchise) and hey! He's a good actor too! So is Val and Joanne, and the story was great, this is a must for fantasy lovers of all ages and one to keep =)

Author: Guest When I first saw Willow I was 14-15 years old, and I loved it so much, in fact it was my movie of choice that year every time we went to the video store, you know "Its Laura's turn to pick the movie..Oh Willow again? Yeesh" My father would choose to work in the garage that night for some reason, he never was into the fantasy movies, unless it was "Debbie Does the Enchanted Forest". I fell in love with Val Kilmer, I had seen him in Top Gun, and Real Genius, but MadMartagen pulled me under. I realized even then that it was ripping off a lot of Fantasy Genre Icons, like Maleficent from snow white, The frozen people in Sleeping Beauty, Even Skelletor from He-man, but it all worked out to be an original vision overall. The effects were good then, and they hold up pretty good now, I cant ever get the "Change me back wiiillllooww" out of my head, and knowing that Val Kilmer was falling in love with Joanne Whalley at the time makes that relationship more believable (too bad that didn't work out for Joanne).

Author: Guest Willow is a good family movie. Val Kilmer is great with his subtle remarks. Its funny, action pact, and simply enjoyable. Its a movie you will want to see now and again. I gave it 4 stars b/c the story is good but the acting isn't so great.

Author: Guest Truly a grand adventure from two masters of film. For it's time, the morphing effects were mesmerizing, and the wonderful cast helped make it all believable. While it might be a bit scary at times for the little ones, this is a good family film. How can you miss with Wizards and magic, an Evil Queen, a valiant hero or two and a love story to boot?
